The official AK golf thread

I went and tried to get fitted for the driver and woods , no luck my swing had seen better days , was hitting the new drivers 200 yards . No chance I was going to buy a 600.00 driver to hit it that far with a bad swing , so I have been out 3 times using my s TM driver a older one and I was hitting it very well , probably around 240 / 250 . So putting the woods on hold . Now the tilelist T - 200 irons are making me think I may get back to a single digit HCP again , hitting all the iron at my target . I am so fricken happy , last 2 rounds were, 83/ 84 , so not far off where I would love to be at . What a awesome game , golf is . Enjoy it gents and ladies .

Hitting the ball straight is more important than hitting it far. We all want to be big hitters but as we age, we lose distance. When I realized I wasn't going to drive the ball ll280 anymore is when I became a better golfer.

I hear ya on that , but I have played a draw for 50 years and then the back went out and started hitting a cut with my driver . Now with the back fitted and going to the gym for the last 18 months my core is rock solid and I am hitting the ball with a 5 yard draw or straight . My misses are noe a small cut shot . Dont we love to hate this great game . Playing tomorrow morning can’t wait , have fun kids, :)

I have a 4 hybrid 22 D in the bag. It's a club I only use to hit a line drive to get out of trouble. Off all of the hybrids I've tried, they are all offset and that in itself screws me up. I never can get my grip right with an offset club head. I still prefer my Ping 5W. With a decent lie I can hit it around 200 yards with decent control.

I know what you mean with "hockey stick" hybrids. Mine is a TM Sim 2 Max Rescue which is more like a mini fairway wood. It's a 190 yard club so sits nicely below my 5 wood. I can hit both reasonably well. 3 wood is another matter although it is getting better. I need to add some weight to the 3 wood so it feels more like my 5 wood.

T-200 is in the so called performance distance segment like my new to me P790's. Good stuff. Technology has come a very long way in a short time. My first full round with P790 was an 83 which is below my handicap. I like where this is going.

I talked to a former long drive competitor at the driving range. He told me body, arms, and hands should feel "loose and floppy" when swing. Don't try to hit the ball. Don't try to steer the ball. So, I emptied my brain and swung away. It worked!

I hit the 4 hybrid today. Solid strike, but it went left like it always does. The damn clubhead is offset to the left and I hit it left all the time. I don't want to change my grip or swing for one club. I'm taking it out of the bag.

My motto is free and easy. When I grab the club, and swing the club and don't think about hitting the ball I play much better.

Hmmm. My new to me 4 hybrid went back to the golf shop. It got replaced with another 4 hybrid with adjustable head. Swapped stock 80g shaft for 65g 5 wood shaft. It's longer and lighter. Was able to hit it but jury is out on the hybrid thing. I hit my 5 wood off the turf about 50 times at the range today and was happy with the results.

The only time I take my 4 hybrid out of the bag is to hit a low shot to get out of trouble. I can't hit it, don't like it. I hit my 5 wood much better.

Yeah, hybrid hits different. It's not an iron and it is not a wood. Don't want to learn a third swing. My hybrid shots go too high from too much spin. I think I have to smooth it like the woods.

Sweep it back , once you get it working you will be surprised that how well you do . A very good drill is practice swinging a hockey stick , if you swing from the same side as you swing a golf club . I know not everyone has played hockey . But it’s the same swing , the only difference is the power from a hockey swing is the bottom hand , golf is all top hand where you get your power from.

Everyone says hit it like an iron. When I do, it doesn't react like an iron. The club grabs the turf and my swing gets interrupted. I have half a chance from the rough. Fairway, no chance. I'd like an 175 yard club because I can't hot my 5 iron that far, and I hit my 5 wood further.

question. i have an older TM dual rescue 4 hybrid. Love it when I hit it good. But midswing i'm always wondering...sweep or descending blow ?

I swapped shafts on my Sim 2 4 rescue to a 65g fairway wood shaft and swing it like a 5 wood. I have tried +2 inches length but I think I will settle on +1.

Sounds like your picking the club up on the back swing, you need to sweep it back , extend your left arm straight back as you rotate your body . There is no difference in hitting a PW as it’s hitting any other club , it’s ALL tempo , the slower you bring the club back the better your tempo will be . Not trying to be the know it all here , I am sharing 60 years of playing some bad golf and all so playing some pretty dam good golf . Just adding some suggestions that might help you out . No pro here , but have been a 3 for many years . Just a old man now 67 .

My back swing is very slow. Not sure why I have trouble with a hybrid and not my fairway woods but I do.

It could be a # of things , a strong right hand , playing the ball to far back in your stance , are you hitting it on the down swing , hand at set up not in front of your zipper , you may need to move your hands forward so the arm and shaft make a straight line down the line to the ball . How do you hit the ball , left , right , straight . It’s all so a 90 % mental game ? Just a few suggestions as I don’t know your swing . Have you ever had a golf lesson ? I try to get one every couple years at the start of the season , before I develop any bad habits . Best money spend , lol you could pay for with all money you make off your buddies :)

Np another drill I use is , keep your feet together and hit full shots at the range , if you can still make good contact and don’t fall out of your swing , then your weight transfer is good . Check out the videos on utube , lots of great things to look at . It could be as simple as a grip issue that is easy to fix with a bit of work . Like moving your right hand more in a neutral position , like turning it counter clockwise wise a bit . Something the club is just not for u ?

This. There are several schools of thought regarding golf swings among the youtube teachers. Watch many and see what works. You might pick up a little here and there until something clicks for you.

I'm starting to sour on hybrids and am thinking about getting out of the hybrid business. Hybrids sometimes fight me at the range and it takes a lot of effort to get them going. 5 wood works from the start. We shall see.
