The Official KEF R107 Owners Registry

Just recently purchased KEF R 107 pair. Serial numbers 003757 L and 003757 R. Bought them without Kube so am looking for one. They seem to be in very good overall condition.
I'll have to see more pics to understand what color mine are. Have a sort of medium reddish tone, might be rosewood but I'm really not sure. I'll try to post some pics if I can figure out how. I like them so far. I think I need to service the tweeters, the right one sounds a bit scratchy but overall, I was impressed with the sound.

Congratulations, they’re amazing speakers IMO. Be careful you don’t fry a tweeter! Happened to me with 104.2’s. Do the Ferrofluid as soon as you can.
I love my 107’s and it took me almost 2 years to find them and they came with the KUBE.
Thanks for all. This is likely to be a somewhat slow process. Finding the right kube seems to be the biggest hurdle. I think I did read somewhere that someone is building them to factory specs? If I can't find one, that may be an option. I won't use them anymore until I get the tweeters ferrofluid taken care of. I shut them down after a brief listen out of concern for them. I don't need them so they can sit until I get the parts and supplies that are needed. Thanks again for all the advice. It is very encouraging to hear all the great reviews. I will post any progress that I make with them. Am very pleased to have them.

I own 2 pairs of 107’s and don’t use the Kube with either pair. I like to switch out amps occasionally and the marginal difference in sound doesn’t make it worth the hassle. I’m not trying to talk you out of finding one, just that it’s not absolutely essential to enjoy the speakers.
Both of my 107’s have original untouched tweeters. I’ll get the ferro fluid changed one of these years, but unless the speaker was abused there’s a good chance it’s still doing its job.

They were pleasant to listen to without the Kube but I did sense that the bass was down a few db from where it should be. Also having the right tweeter sounding scratchier than the left one had me concerned that it is probably dry. Since I have the AR 9's in my every day set up, I can let the KEFs sit awhile. I should also look into a different amp to run them. I don't need 385 wpc which is what my amps have and would like to hear them with class A.

i have posted for sale yesterday a second generation Kube 107 with the one-piece PCB and RCA rear connectors.
It may be anecdotal, but I find the second generation Kube 107 sounds better than the first generation (which I also had).
I run my 107/2 with an old Kube 200 prototype designed and produced in the early 1990s by Kef's engineers. It was designed to test a sayellite/subwoofer system and I prefer its more physical bass. Therefore selling the Kube 107. I am a bass head.

Yup. It includes an almost brand new aftermarket power supply with metal 5-pin 240° DIN connector. It is standard 120v North American spec.
I explained a few months back on the 104/2 Owners FB page how to make them. Very simple and looks OEM.

I Recently became the owner of a pair of Kef 107s (SN: 002073) in BLACK, along with a variety of additional parts including the original KUBE (SN: SP21C5 2073) and a "KEF PROFESSIONAL SERIES KUBE" (SN TBC). These were my dads which he bought used from a HiFi shop in Edinburgh back in about 1990. Hes in his 80s now and finnaly decided to get rid of all his kit as it wasn't being used. Obviuously i made the 400mile drive to collect!
Needed 2 cars as he also gave me his Meridon 603 Digital Pre, 2 x 605 monoblocks and Garrard 401 turntable with SME 3009 S2 tone arm with sure v15. I think he still has a SME mk 1 arm he plans to sell. Being of a certain age, everything is in preistine condition and he still had all the original packaging and instructions and company litriture (no boxes for the 107s tho). oh.. and a few boxes of vinyl (50s-70s) to get me started.
Need to find their final resting place but rigged everything up yesterday with the Professional KUBE as he had all the balanced cables made up years ago. Appears all to be working but the KEFs dont have the power bass they used to. I fear i need to refoam them as I know this has never been done although I havent opened the bottoms to check.
Will be looking into the various threads here for tips and a foam supplier in the UK. Any insights will be welcome!

Wow that’s a really great setup your father had.
Definitely check the surrounds, I’m sure they’re gone by now and it’s not too difficult too get the woofers out. Just lots of foam and screws. If I did it again I’d do one speaker at a time so I could be sure to put all the foam back in the right way.

Agreed, woofer foam surrounds probably rotted - I believe bacteria eats it !. Straightforward to get them refoamed. When I opened mine up I could see all the way down to the bottom of the cabinet
Kit arrived from the US.. no import charges! Boom. Spent the weekend on the dinning room table undergoing foam surgery and now operational. What a difference! I spent quite a long time carefully cleaning off the old mess, 1-2 hours per speaker. Needed to right first time as I didnt want to repeat! Wish i'd had a surround to practice gluing on first. The first speaker was less pretty that the susequent 3 butiIt doesnt take long to get the hang of applying the glue evenly and in the right proportions. Some good videos on youtube.
Some pics below. Top woofers were baddly cracked and disintegrated when you touched them. Bottoms had all fallen away.

That decomposed foam gets rather sticky eh.
When I open my 107s when purchase (used) and in need of work, I could see right through the surrounds to the bottom of the cabinet.
You should be thrilled with the improvement so far.

Good point. I'm a mechanical engineer but work opposite an electrical one! I'm sure he he'll have the appropriate kit to test.
