The Official -Technics SL-1600/1700/1800- Owners Thread

Have recapped the three boards and found over a dozen of them were leaking and corroded down the legs , wired in a blue 3mm LED into the popup lamp and added some fresh damping fluid into the recess after dismatling and replaced the o ring stop . dismantled the spindle, cleaned and reoiled now waiting on some wima caps to finish the pitch control board . also oiled the cue/autoreturn motor front bearing , was daunted by the thought of dismantling the tonearm VTA rings so squirted some isopryl alcohol into the threads from underneath and worked it in, seems to have softened up the old grease so it now turns easier, was working fine just quite stiff .
I hear you on the VTA rings. I did similar and it’s been working great. I believe I tried to get a little silicone oil in from the top and bottom also. Loosen it all up nicely from nearly seized.
