What active are you using, does it have CD compensation, and are you using that?

If you mean myself Zilch,the crossover is as listed(the CX 3400),and I am using the CD equalisation.
That gave a smoother mid and a more extended treble,but nil increase in resolution.The smoothing of the mids and the treble were welcome.
The increase in resolution provided by the better phono preamp,and the minimalist signal-path of the Attenuator/buffer have transformed the sound of the system.
The Vals have been the beneficiaries of that transformation,as will always happen when the speakers are fed with a better signal. :yes:
The Valencias are bandwidth-limited still(like most speakers),but what is happening within that band,now sounds mighty fine.

I didn't have much of an opportunity to hear 406s with CX3400 CD Comp, but what I heard was enough for me to recommend that approach earlier in this thread.

I rely upon more competent listeners such as yourself to advise as to how successful is the result.... :thmbsp:

I went the inexpensive route and am using the Behringer CX3400 and yes as you know it does have CD compensation. I have tried it with and without.

That was a tricky restoration.I'm not sure that I'd notice anything had been done to those speakers,without seeing your 'before and after' photos.
The worst part about wanting to improve the sound of one's speakers,is that the speakers 'sound' is necessarily also the sound of the interaction with the equipment which precedes them.
At the start of this year,I changed my phono preamp,and my active preamp was replaced by an Attenuator/buffer-stage.The effect(via the Valencias) was that they gained immensely in resolution. :scratch2:

I agree completly I found that once I added the Pilot sp-210 tube pre to the setup everything seemed to fall in place.
