The Pioneer "ELITE" Gear Thread!

One more black face beauty. The last one for awhile, I promise. A classic. The forerunner to my LD-S2 and the original Reference/Elite Laserdisc player. The LD-S1. Been looking for an opportunity to pick one of these up. Works perfect. Such a cool, cool machine. It is just iconic. Now I just need to locate an original remote.

Wow, that's a beautiful component and a wonderful addition to your collection. Congratulations. :thmbsp:

I have the original VP-1000, the one with the gas laser, that still works. I thought that more recent laserdiscs had digital as well as analog video and that the later players such as yours, could read the digital format. It seems I was wrong as a Pioneer buff recently told me that on some discs it was the audio that was offered in digital as well as analog though the video remained in analog format on all discs.

Yes, I believe that is one of the big reasons for the 12" disc. I'm sure everyone knows this but DVD video is compressed, part of the reason they can get it on a disc the size of a CD.

Very cool you have the VP-1000 and that it still works.

I just love laserdisc !

OK, I lied.

A pic of my "Reference" subset of the Elite components I am currently working on. Just put the C-90 back into circulation after replacing all the relays.
Now to get the PD-M90X back up to where it should be.

No activity on this thread....So C-90 working great, PD-M90X playing great, F-91 added to the Reference collection. Without the PD-91 I just need an A-91D and a PL-90 and I think I would have the 1986 Reference set of Elite components wrapped up. But those two are few and far between.

Some beautiful Elite gear in this thread. Makes my PD-D6-J CD/SACD player look like a toy with its thin, flimsy tray...

And this is an old pic from several years ago, the VSX-54TX. I still have this receiver and use it in our bedroom HT system. Still looks and sounds excellent.

I've just purchased this Pioneer F-93 reference tuner via Ebay to go with my Pioneer reference CT-91 cassette deck & PD-91 CD player (page 5),was gonna get a F-91,but this one looks even better with it's tuning knob, will post a better pic when it arrives in a few days time.

what about the DSS-E10 and don't forget the D-1000.

Not yet - the tape deck is missing, but Tom knows that. Not too many options, though. Most of USA CT-91 are Elite. Reference CT-91 are common in Europe, but come without amber mask. Well, the mask can be manufactured from stage lighting gels. Or wood sides can be slapped on S800, 939, 959, or my preferred choice - 979. If the machine is euro voltage - transformer can be replaced. I have a 939 from Germany with a transformer swapped to 120V. Digikey has extensive supply of those. Sure, more than one transformer would be needed.
To find DSS-E10 might be difficult. DSS-9 is more common.

Sound is different, too. I did A/B my F-93 and F-91. Difference noticeable. Somewhat I liked 91 more. But there is nothing wrong with 93. Just different - you might liked 93 more. On the other hand, 93 pulls stations better.
93 has one quirk, though. If left on standby, part of power supply is always on, and one cap is situated very close to a hot transistor heatsink. And it popped, eventually. The leaked out fluid took out a digital Rohm transistor nearby, but surely was an easy fix.
Anyway, F-93 is a fun to use, shame that there not too much to listen on FM nowadays. I would give away half of my kingdom if an internet radio streamer of such level/quality existed - preferably Pioneer Elite.

Many thanks indeed for the helpful and interesting info.It should be with me sometime later today (fingers crossed),really looking forward to placing it next to my Pioneer PD-91 CD player and CT-91 cassette deck.
To be honest,I've been thinking perhaps maybe I should of purchased the slightly older F-91 instead, but this one was around the same price as the F-91's usually go for,and after reading that it had a MRRP of $900 compared to the F-91's $600 only around 3 years later,I thought it would be the better buy especially with it's tuning knob.

what about the DSS-E10 and don't forget the D-1000.

I was basing my collection on what I think is the 1986 or 1987 Elite brochure that i have. You are right about the DSS-E10 but then I would have to include the DSS-E6 also. (I have no intention to get either as I'm not much of a Pioneer speaker fan...even though I do own a set of DSS-5's)

As far as the D-1000 goes, I think it's a very cool machine and I wouldn't mind having one someday. It just wasn't included in the brochure I am referencing and I'm not sure it was available at all in the USA so that's why I don't include it here.

Dan brought up the CT-91 cassette deck. I have one but I am not including it with this bunch because, again, it wasn't included in the 1986-1987 brochure I have and also because it doesn't have the Reference script but instead has the Elite logo in block letters. It is included in the 1988 brochure I have.

I probably shouldn't have included the PD-91 as that didn't come out until 1988 as far as I can tell. But it has the Reference script. And I have 2 of them for some reason.

I also have a PD-M900 with the Reference script but that also is featured in the 1988 brochure and not the earlier. It's also not fixed yet so there's that.

I guess I could work on putting together a 1988 Elite/Reference setup using the 1988 brochure as a guide but then I'd have to find a C-91, another F-91 and still a A-91D and probably more. Ha!

I guess this all doesn't mean too much. Just screwing around with some stereo stuff that's kind of neat.

I have heard good things about both of these although I haven't had the good fortune to hear either.

Many thanks.I connected it up last night and it sounds wonderful. It's a joy to look at whilst listening too! Strange to think digital tuners were as beautifully built as this and not so long ago either!

That is a gorgeous looking tuner.

Yep they are nice. I recently got a F-91 and I am very impressed with it. The sound also. I was really wondering if there was any point since FM doesn't really have much I am interested in anymore but this is really remarkable.

I'm with Hennessy though. I'd really like to see an Internet radio/music streamer built along the lines of the F-91/F-93.

I have added a DV-F07 301 disc DVD player to my collection bringing my Elite total to 6 pieces.

VSX-39TX 5.1/7.1 Reciever
DV-38A DVD Player
DV-F07 301 Disc DVD Player
PD-M92 6-Disc CD Player
CLD-91 Laserdisc Player
D-1000 DAT Deck

Still looking for a CT-91/93 or a CT-W51 and some wood panels to make it look better, SP-91D, M-91, and the ever elusive PL-90.

Also has anyone heard of a D-93 DAT Deck looks like an elite version of the D-900.
