The Rare Onkyo DX-701?

Has anyone got the slightest notion about this player? It looks like it was made in 1995. It may or may not accommodate 2 disks. (Really?) According to Radiomuseum.com, it has a write capability? (That seems far fetched.)

Onkyo made a DX-700, which did not have an optical connect, and a DX-702, which had the optical connect, at least that is what I can find online. The DX-702 got a good review in the Chicago Tribune, as a solid, middle of the road, product, offering better sound than the typical $150 CD player at the time.

Thoughts?

Not sure what you're looking for. There's one on eBay, shows no optical output and a manufacture data of 1992. I don't see any indication that it can handle two discs, nor that it can write (I don't think any standalone CD recorders were available in 1992; CD writing in general was in its infancy at that time).

Maybe you are thinking of the DX-R700. I've never seen one.

(edit: changed "probably" to "maybe." According to the link above, although the DX-R700 did have optical output, it didn't have dual trays.)

Thanks, gents. The DX-701 on the 'Bay is also on Craigslist here in Denver. It looks like Dswankey is spot on: it's nothing special. I downloaded the service manual and did some digging threw it. Beh ...
