The Recorded LIVE Playlist

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Harveys' Outdoor Amphitheatre
Stateline, NE
8 August 2012

I am truing like HELL to get into NY's headspace on this one, but with a 24-minute mediocrity titlled "Wlak Like A Giant" and its 9-10 minute "weld noise" section AND a 17-minute weep as **** "Ramada Inn" (punchline: "oh, how I have wronged you lo these many years, wife"), Iam not feeling this tour. The interplay b/w the band -- especially NY & Pancho -- is healthy and egalitarian, moreso than in decades (well, the '91, '96 tours, and an improvement on the 2008 tour as well), but 24 minutes of WLAG and 17 minutes of RI are too much. It's about long last he jettison, if anything, "Love & Only Love" (clocking in thus far @ 14 minutes per show in 2012, drop ****ing "Cinammon Girl" alraeady, which he personnaly disses at the start of each performance of that tired nugget, and work in some arrangement ofthe following:

1. CTH and DBTR or CITS
2. CTH, DBTR or CITS, and Rocking In The Free World
3. DBTR, CITS, and RITFW.

BTW, one of the "new" numbers, variously referred to as "Ontario" and "Broen in Ontario", shares more than a little musical/tonal DNS with "Ohio" and is quite fetching.

Ain' no way Im dropping 1-2 C notes on this tour, not unless there is a marked change in the Setlist.

PS - even "Powderfinger", which The Horse have knocked out at all (5?) performances in 2012 thus far, is a flacid and uninspired affair. Neil, if you''re tired of it, toss it, that's 5.5-7.0 minutes saved that can be devoted to DBTR and/or CITS. GET IT TOGETHER. G-DLIKE TONE ISN'T ENOUGH. THE SONGCRAFT DOES MATTER.

Wayyyy toooo fun. Pretty sure only the Morricone themes are live but what the hell.

In honor of Pat Metheny's 58th birthday I'm playing this:

Hey, I looked for some Pat and found this instead. I think he'd approve of Diamonds and Rust with its Brazilian jazz influence.

That must have been a fun dorm room at Purdue.

;-)

I was there and it was my virgin show experience.

The frat room rotated between metal, goofy 80s pop (Smith-ish mostly), marginal jazz and Philip Glass. The ladies dug us... Especially when we switched from Iron Maiden to The Photographer.

edit: Oh damn I forgot classical. We had two Aero's and a EE sharing the space so we usually used Mozart to get the massive amount of homework done. Someone should have stopped by with some Pärt or Riley but we weren't cool enough at the time. Obviously no ladies were present.

Yeah, just listened to Prairie Wind (not live, but the point is the same) , and although it's pretty decent, I think that Neil doesn't have a filter anymore, everything is fair game. Maybe he figures that whatever he does, someone's going to to like it. Makes me hark back to the days of "Time Fades Away", where even songs that didn't make it onto albums were solid.

Anyway, Mystic, what do you think about the Rio "Live on Air: The Lost Tapes Volume II"? Thinking about picking it up, as it looks like a great set list for CH.
