Luckiestman at this stage preserving these early direct drive tables in their original form as much as possible should be the goal. Failure wasn't an option for Panasonic/Technics and they threw everything but the kitchen sink into the design and materials of the table. Given a well recorded album and compatible cartridge they stand up to the test of time holding their own against newer tables.
I agree - my wife and I have a sizeable collection of records we built up over 25 years but my choice of new turntables (gotta be better than old tech, right?) and less good cartridge choices meant we were only listening for nostalgia reasons. It is only since I got this classic table and AT150ea cartridge a few years ago that we have uncovered the real music in those vinyl grooves!
