I've seen several garage systems that probably would surpass my main listening rig. However, I live in South Texas nearby the Gulf Coast - It's too damn hot and humid. I present you my garage system: A Sony all-in-one from a rack system, a Coby DVD player for CDs, a pair of 80s Fisher speakers and an orphan Sony speaker. This is all I need in the garage; it plays music while I'm in the yard or working on something in the garage. I could care less if I spill oil or grease on the speakers, the lawn mower snags the grill cloth, the light on the tuner display goes out (it did) or if only one tape player works (which is true). If the stereo dies, big deal.
If I lived in up north, I might have a slightly different preference for the garage.

I don't HAVE a garage system....but I can open a few windows and hear my main system all the way to the road......280 feet away. Just can't hear it while sitting on the dock, the lake is behind the house. Well guess I'll go out and finish cuttin' the yard, it's 100 in the shade here today. Oh, and them Northern boys have to worry about their garage system FREEZING in the winter!? What's up with that?
 
I avoid the garage this time of year. Too damn hot, even with an old attic ventilator mounted in a cage.

I would love to do that but I have neighbors and the windows on our 30+ year old homes are not double paned. The last thing I need is a visit from the cops, especially if I'm firing up the green. If I was in the sticks, that would be no issue.
 
I'm not sure if it's the power strip, or the sneakers and socks by the wastepaper basket.:D

But, for some fairly odd reason i like this thread and the OP's attitude about his garage system.:smoke:

I find just a good radio or boombox adequate for my purposes. I suppose I could hook up some active speakers if I thought about it to improve the sound quality, but I'm not really that bothered.
 
Beats my 35 yr old Panasonic AM/FM radio with paint splatter and the official coat hanger replacement antennae :D
 
Hey ya'll just came across this thread and can relate, you see I also live in deep South Texas where the heat along with the heat index is well over 100 degrees. I just got back home yesterday from South Padre Island (after a week there of sun, beach and fun) sun tanned n' all and it appears that it is hotter here than down there! The only thing I have in my garge is an old boom-box that's still kicking, its been out there since 1997 when we first moved out here in the country/ranching/farm land and been through cold winters and hot summers. Also have a small system out in the patio that provides radio sounds only.

Don't worry, it's held up with a row of bricks sandwiched on the floor and some other stuff to the left not pictured, as well as the stereo. Those are my window covers for hurricanes. Even if the plywood falls and destroys the stereo, BFD.
 
My garage system is a 1985 JVC boombox. 'Sounds great!!' It's just got the magic.

Only problem is sometimes you have to spin the CD and close the cover fast and press play real fast to get the CD player to work! LOL. That's ok.

It's been all over the world with me, it's a wonderful friend! Wish I had an NOS one in standby!!!

As a fellow Houstonian, I know exactly what you mean. After we reached ENS (Empty-Nest Status) three years ago and downsized from a big two-story 4-2-2 on a giant lot to a much more manageable 3-2-2 ranch with a compact yard, I looked forward to getting the garage set up exactly like I wanted -- maybe even installing a wall AC unit in it -- and spending some serious time out there restoring my weekend wheels. :banana:

Didn't happen. :sigh: Our younger daughter boomeranged back home, and about three-fourths of her furniture and belongings are now crammed into my side of the garage. I can barely see my workbench, let alone get to it, so for now my "garage system" is actually in my closet until she moves out again.

With all my griping, though, I do like having our girl close by. I also wouldn't trade our heat and humidity in the summer for the snow and ice my brother has to deal with for months every year in Littleton, CO.

good deal man! rat garage systems are awesome, specially when they rock out! "all that noise is coming from that crap? yep!"

i dont have a garage so my shed system is a kenwood receiver from the late 60's that recapped but has a busted dial glass, an olson 15" in a big plywood box with a motorola piezo tweeter on one side, and an audiophile tower speaker i found at a yardsale on the other end. all of 16wpc and its a party in there!

Damn son, that four yrs. or so I spent down there must have crept up on me...I've got the same rig in my garage, lol.

I'm just a big baby about the weather, over 75, head for shade and a chair, under 60, get inside and break out the socks. :D

Right now, 1200 mi. North of you, at 11:00 PM it's 83 and 58% humidity. I'm breaking the AC out of the camper, tomorrow, and putting it in the wall.:yes:
