The turntables by pioneer... What do you consider the best?

I had to mention the one-of-a-kind PL-L1000. Who else made a linear motor tonearm drive?

AFAIK, only Pioneer on the the PL-L1, PL-L1000/1000A & Phase linear re-badged 8000/8000A, and the PL-L800.

I love my Pioneer PL-61. To me, it's the greatest turntable and I finally have the perfect vinyl setup I always wanted. :music:

I clicked on this out of curiosity. It's really hard to say which one was best. As I understand it Pioneer made a number of nice TTs. Hell, I've even heard the PL-510 being called one of the best.:dunno:
I have a PL-510A which I like a lot and being used currently. I also have a PL-530 in the closet at the moment (It needs very minor work - damn thing doesn't shut down easy).

What? no votes for probably the most significant Pioneer tables of all times?

What makes it significant? Anybody who had even a minimum wage job could run down to the local appliance store and get a brand new one. Which of course as the years rolled on "upgraditis" took over. Also it provided a constant cash flow so the engineering depts could crank out the hi-end tables with out upsetting the business office bean-counter pool.

Before you all laugh, think about it. The PL 12-D. The proletariat's choice.

Pl-71. May not be their best , but it's the best by them that I've heard enough to know it's pretty good.

That thing is just AWESOME!

Does it need much maintenance?

They sometimes need a tune-up before being put back into service, but after that, the maintenance consists of wiping the rails with a soft cloth every so often. They also like to be perfectly level. They're pretty bullet proof otherwise.

Pioneer used to kick so much ass. Of course, I just got my pioneer A1000 (?) headphones, the ones everyone is raving about, and there's those little speakers Pioneer made that again, everyone is raving about too. Perhaps they're getting a little magic back??

Still don't like their new logo. Old one was better. :thmbsp:

Anyway, LOVE THAT TT!

The most sought after Pioneers are the PL-71, PL-570, PLC-590, PL-600/600X and the PL-L1000 linear tracker. There are all direct drives. The only one of these I have personally used myself is the PL-600 and it is an excellent deck - one of the best in it's day. Any of the others in this list should be very good too, especially the 590. The low-end belt drive PL-12D is a good budget deck.
