The Two Biggest Falsehoods About Zu Audio Omen Dirty Weekend Speakers

I really shouldn't bother, but was surprised to find, 5 years on (since I was last involved much in Zu discussions around here) yet another thread full of preemptive Zu dissent. :D
This hobby "gets this way" often which has a lot to do with why I stopped coming around these discussions, often full of folks trying to be the "most right".
For my part, I've still a pair of DW MkII Omen that I've never fallen out of love with. Barring all further, boring, details I will only add this:
The DW *are* fussy about where they sound *fantastic*. They are *not* fussy about where they sound *good*. That's been my experience.
I can achieve a listening placement/setup that rivals or betters anything I've had in the homes, but usually they're not pulling that sort of duty, but set haphazardly and become easy-to-live-with speakers. (Mine are 2020 Mkiis with jupiter caps, most regularly driven by a 2235B)
All that to say, I fully understand the OP's early take on these. I shared *some* of them in my first months. Slowly that all evaporated and have for some time considered them some of most engaging and versatile loudspeakers I've owned. My quarter's spent. Time's up. Cheers.

If you have ever seen the response curves, the dispersion curves and the dissipation curves on the speakers you wouldn't have allowed then in your house. They are bad bad bad bad. No matter what the Audiophiliac says in his reviews.

Okay, but how do they sound in the real world?

That depends on your real room. Its furnishings and its acoustic signature. I don't care which speaker you like if your room doesn't like your speakers you will never be happy. But then sometimes ignorance is bliss. I mean if you haven't been a musician or haven't trained yourself to listen or ever been to live un amplified concert you might never know the difference.

I just think that measurements only tell you so much. You never know how something will sound until you put it in your room and set it up correctly. That said, my brother in law has a pair of DWs and they sound pretty damn good - despite his untreated, disaster of a listening room.
