The Two Most Frustrating Things about Hi-Fi...

Hear hear. God bless the dopamine avalanche of ADHD obsession and hyper-focus.
I think that you have to have a measure of ocd obsessive, to keep things moving in a positive direction in this hobby. Without it, you might be happy at a level that is less than what could be.

Without a doubt, the thing that has been the most aggravating to me along my audio journey, has been the couple of times that I have developed an audible hum in my setup. This drove me crazy to no end. It can take so much time to figure out. This has always involved my phono rig.

My four main obstacles:

Funding.

Availability.

Space.

Time.
The best half can offer a hefty defense, too.

It used to be that if I wanted to buy something, she had to buy something of equal cost in the interest of "fairness". So everything I wanted cost 2x the price, so I did without. I got divorced about 1 1/2 years ago. No more issues for me there!

My married friend`s expression along those lines above was: "equal time and money at the mall" when they purchased some kind of boy toy, as their wife expected in "fairness !
I was quite glad to have never dealt with that situation, being never married !

That is a very very interesting perspective. I recall "those days" but since I have assembled what I have, especially my speakers, I have lost that OCD thing as you call it. In my mind, for me to best my speakers, I just don't see investing what it would take to get a relatively small reward. So am I settling for less than what could be? Maybe but I want to propose that ALL of us will sooner or later get to the point where a level of contentment will settle in vs. spending more and more to get 1% improvement-maybe.

I'm gradually replacing all of my cables with Blue Jeans. $60 shipped for a pair of 3' RCA cables seems high but not so bad when you look at the competition. Speaker cables too, and you can get a custom length for everything (no affiliation). Speaker placement is not too flexible in the main living room. Frustration is just the inconvenience of vinyl records but as good a digital sounds I can't get away from analog.

I really meant that I think it helps along the way, to help keep things moving in a positive direction. Hopefully, eventually, you get to a place where you are very satisfied. I certainly am

There is a big difference between a cheap cable that starts to have an intermittent connection due to bending and a quality cable.
That's true.. but how many times are you going to bend a cable in your lifetime? You can get decent cables for about $10 a pair. I have some of those that I've been using for years and never had any problems with them.

If we're realistic about it, when we buy cables we never know if they are going to hold up well, or the connectors are going to fall apart, etc. There are no specs provided by any cable manufacturer about either of these issues. We hope that the one's we're buying are going to last. Maybe some manufacturers (like Blue Jeans?) offer a lifetime warranty. That's certainly worth paying more for, but how much more? You can replace a $10 cable 5 times before you've spent as much for one of those Blue Jeans.

Near as I can figure...OP left on July '23, with no further follow up. ?

As per the initial "reach-out", some times ya gotta turf and start anew. Takes time to save up, but prob worth it in the long run.

Her: "What is that thing sitting on top of the shelf by the turntable?"

Me: "The cat brought it in."

Her: "We don't have any cats!"

Me: "That's what makes it so unique!"

And then he went and got the spare blanket and pillow and cast his eyes towards the couch, his future sleeping quarters until further notice !

I have an audio system in the living room and one in the bedroom, I'm very satisfied with both, I simply don't want anything else. As long as it plays my music as currently there is nothing else for me. If they ever have technical problems I will fix them, under no circumstances will there be another purchase. Except for some LPs
