The Vintage High End Separates Thread

I think we are looking for:
Statement pieces by Manufacturers, or highly sought after units that have stood the test of time.
Regards,
Jim

For techs like me my HK Citation 14 and 17 are statements. Maybe not so much for the audiophile, but nice wiring harness, connectors having the pin designations/function painted on the bottom at least in the 17, made to be easily serviced, is appealing.
Excluding a 16 I did see on the www, those are not fetching high end prices over here in Holland

Been through tons of equipment that would fit this definition over the last 40+ years.

Might be fun to remember everything and put a list together but that would take some time.

I'll just start with these:

Marantz 10B, 7C, 8B
McIntosh MX110, MC30s
Audio Research SP3, D160

More to follow. :D

Ok I'll bite,

Marantz 7
Marantz Model 1 Consolettes (pair)
Marantz Model 2 (pair)
Marantz Model 5 (pair)
Marantz 8b
Marantz 10
Citation II
ARC SP 3a-1
McIntosh Mc225
Futterman H3

Thanks

A kindred spirit.....

Very nice collection. :thmbsp:

:thmbsp::thmbsp:I'll second that . Very nice collection!
I was going to wait until it was restored but I was listening to it last night and I really feel it earned mention. Gas Son of Ampzilla.
I had a question. Do vintage speakers belong in this thread or just components?

Id think so,if your vintage speakers were totl from their manufacturers.
Most people who originally would have spent the big $ on "high end seperates" back in the day would have in most cases purchased matching high end speakers to get the best out of their purchase. And most audio stores were geared to push their product as so.Many of these high end seperates vintage systems are still found complete with their Amp/Preamp/Tuner and speakers all intact as originally purchased with their owners ageing and passing
I included my original vintage Hi-end speakers when I listed my gear

I have acquired a Luxman Laboratory Reference stack (circa 1979) and have hooked up the 5M21 amp and 5C50 pre and listened with CD over the past 2 weeks. Boy, do they sound nice - as nice as any SS gear that I've spent time with and are a rival (though different) to my tubed stuff.. This weekend I'll try out the phono section.

I've been experimenting with a 1980 Acoustat RP-2 pre-amp that Mr. Strickland intended to mate with his amps and ESL speakers- it has an overbuilt PS and the phono stage (MC and MM) designed by Frank Van Alstine. I bought it from Wes in Va a while back. I guess it might fit in this category.

Why can't I see the pics?? The new site is killing me. :D
Nobody has posted photos in this thread, can you see these?

What? No Nines??!! Kidding, you have a very awesome collection.

I guess I'm close here

Marantz model 7
Marantz 10b
3 each Mc MC-40
Mc C-20 early model
Mc MR-71
4 each Dyna ST-70 (which I would not call a true TOTL but I would call it a statement piece)
Koss Pro-4AAA (same category as the dyna)
Ex - TD 124 with SME 3012 arm
Ex - REvox A77
ex - Teac external Dolby system cant remember the model
ex - Advent loudspeakers
Alas, I don't have a decent set of loudspeakers at present -- will work on that tho!

Ha you are killing me. Really hard to come across over the last 20 yrs I missed the boat on them and I don't think I would add them now as I'm " middle aged".

Here's a pic - bad one- of most of the stuff mentioned above.
