The worst build quality I've ever seen

All I'll say is that a friend sent me a Sophia PP EL34 amp that had been "modified" for 6L6's. It was butchered, so badly that Richard at Sophia said it was impossible to restore to the original condition. I stripped it and used it for an experimenter chassis.

Did your friend buy it direct from Vital or second-hand? It's worth asking.

Please tell me that was a kit, that someone put together as a first project.

If that's what someone thought passed as "production", that person should never touch a soldering iron, or any other electrical tool, or part, again.

Regards,
Gordon.

That's what you get with a kit and no experience using a Weller dual heat soldering gun and dirty tip. At least the solder wasn't acid core.

Sadly, this is NOT a kit.

I've had an example of that kind of thing cross the bench, but not that bad. I've threatened to slide some of them off the bench and onto the hard floor, but hesitated since I didn't want to damage the ceramic tile.

Soldered with a propane torch?

Here's an example for sale:

I would hazard a guess that there is only one of these, and that Randy has it. He can confirm by checking the distinctive rear panel to see the IEC cutout and irregular jack placement.

Between this and the recent Carver drama, it really shows that Hi-End gear is the Wild West, and caveat emptor is alive and well.

Made in the same factory that builds primaluna?

That's a Primaluna? It looks like it has recycled ceramic strips from a Tek scope. I've never seen a commercial builder do that.

How else do you use tag strips like that? Isn't there a special solder that bonds with the tag loops?

Photo taken directly from their website. Those strips are still available new.

The original Tek tag strips required silver-bearing solder to prevent damaging the bonds.

I hope nobody ever is this critical about some of the stuff I built when I was a teenager! I am surprised it was put for sale like that, but hey hard to know the exact background of the builder. Could be someone trying to recover investment from a project.

He has an interesting way to mount filter caps.

Well, I wouldn't want too much scrutiny of my builds either, but I've gotten a bit tidier than that! :-)

This thing is pretty bad, much worse than the Rawson Pass clones.
I'd have to see a Prima Luna in person, or more representative pix to make that judgement. I've been fooled by pix of my own gear like those.
