Please learn to use them correctly. I'm sure I occasionally screw up in my posts too, it seems like some people were never taught which to use. Drives me bonkers!

There - "over there"
They're - "they are"
their = "belongs to them"

Just had to get that off my chest.

I don't know why people think this is poor grammar. It's poor spelling...

They know what they're writing about in their posts. You understand what it means. They just don't spell it correctly.
 
at least this is just a broad ranging grammar nazi thread, and not an off topic post flaming another AK'er

There - "Over There" - "There is" - "There was" - "There you go again" something you say to your wife or husband -

As you see, there are a multitude of meaning for just one word.
A few example are:
KNOW and NOW, WITCH and WHICH

English is not my first language; I still have to think hard how to use certain English words with different meaning and spelling. Second, there is the grammar part of it, how to use words to express myself so others AK members will know what I really mean so they can offer and be able to help me.

The one that gives me trouble is the affect-effect thing.

As for commas vs, semicolons I use Sister Mary Rosary's rule; commas come in pairs.

Absolutely no offenses taken, thank you. I was only stating my own difficulties while expressing myself in other languages. I have to take my time, and if not sure, peruse this famous book that we call DICTIONARY and to my surprise find that lots of words are spelled differently, case in point, "meter" - US English and "metre" British English and so on.
