Ok, i have my ADS L710's home connected and playing with some Gil Scott-Heron - winter in America.my initial impression is wow,very open and natural sound well balanced very spatial as if the artist is sitting here on the keyboards.condition is very good,some minor 30 year old wear nothing major(i call it age like me wish i had endured this well)on nick were a chunk broke off and was re glued ,no worries though it is all patina. i am very happy i got what i wanted and the seller got his price both parties mutually satisfied.THANK YOU STEPHEN!!!!!!

it may be a wile before i bite into some more speakers i want to fully enjoy these and learn all the dynamics they posses. initially i can tell a difference from what i have been listening to.i am no Leonard Feldman but i no good sound.well here are some pictures. hey ,,i want to know what is that polish for wood isnt it called liquid gold?i dont know if any of you are familur with Gil Scott-Herron but it is scary the way his voice is coming through.

Something to be watched: the fuse holder can get a bit loose on the fuse and you'll lose the treble. It can be tightened and no worries.

Howards feed and wax is often recommended.
Time spent with setup is very rewarding- I highly recommend a test disc that starts with a mono signal. I have the Stereophile Test CD 2.

ok,do you think i will get accurate sound if i used the test signals and tones on the internet, i say a site where you could check the tones and signal i have a digital sound card and it goes into my hk3490 with optical link,if it is a true digital sound file shouldnt it produce accurately through a optical line?

got them 3' up got some carrot oil with canuba wax, not sure what it was for but i am gonna use some of that on the wood ,i have a little discoloration on the on dustcap on bottom woof,i could live with it but is there a conditioner for speaker cones that might darken the other woofers. seems like the are made from a wool type of paper or something like the kinda fibrous feel.

i am not going to mess with them much other than polish them and listen to them. the hk is running nice and cool not even the slightest sign of heat.medium volume -19db on the dail sound card full 100% speaking of what is a good db meter to get that is accurate so i can see what db's i am listening at.not to pricey btw you guy's were right!!

Be careful dealing with woofers/drivers. In other words, if you're going to add anything to the woofers/drivers, be sure to consider how this will affect the speaker's ability to do it's job as designed. As far as treating/refurbishing the veneer, the majority seem to prefer Howards Restore-A-Finish & Howards Feed N Wax. Feed N Wax for rejuvenating an already good-looking veneer, and Restore-A-Finish for the more-invasive stuff.

What do you ADS owners generally prefer in terms of elevation? Some kind of riser, or stand-mounted? Just wondering.

i am not going to mess with the drivers ,i did not get the stands that were made for them they were about 24-28" off the ground i have a bunch of maple 2"x4" planks i am going to raise them 32" and put them on a 10 degree tilt away from walls or corners.one in front of me 15 feet away and the other in back of me 12 feet away.they are in my office on the hk 3490. for once i am satisfied right out the box.just going to condition the wood,

i have some premium 14 awg flat wire and i am going to solder the wire to banana plugs.after i make sure of placement

Cleon, The discoloration is a very little bit of Elmer's glue. When I got them, that dustcap had a small 'flap' of the fibrous material hanging loose. My best guess at the time was perhaps a cat clawed it or some such. There was no material missing, I used the glue to attach the flap and cover the hole.

It's just the unfortunate result of the speakers having had at least one previous life before an AK'er got them.

It is purely cosmetic and I recommend that you do nothing in the way of attempting to match it.

I had forgotten about it (until I saw your pics) as I had these out of service in a back room and never take the screens off (two 5 year olds in my house).

Hope you really enjoy them.

yes i am i have Judy Garland in person at Carnegie hall 1490 kbs flac playing.. i wish i still had my turntable so i could play some vinyl.i just have a cheesy gem turntable that i use for cleaning records.oh well digital sounds good .

what Joe ,,well not exactly squared front and back i still get a left ,right image. ok front right and rear left side.i think that clears it a bit.30"is about ear level i will stick to the 32".we dont have a R.S. any more and i doubt wally world has it. i will look online at the bay.

you know i have heard if you close your eyes and cannot here were the music is coming from then your stereo imaging is good i honestly cannot tell from were the music is coming it actually sounds full and just there cannot pinpoint any direction.and i can here the actual instrument being played,if you can understand that statement.

I did 'Feed-n-Wax' the cabinets some time over the summer. Won't hurt to hit them again, but I doubt you will see any meaningful improvement with regard to the scratches and unevenness on the finish. For that you are going to have to hit them with a sander and follow up with some BLO and mineral spirits. I had planned to do it this winter - but the speakers had other ideas - they wanted to go to your house and play music.:yes:

You can get the Rat Shack meter online. I used an original analog Rat Shack meter for 30+ years before switching to a Dayton EMM-6. It needs a microphone preamp with phantom power to work and costs more than the Rat Shack meter before adding the preamp.

Whatever meter you get you might want to investigate REW (Room Equalization Wizard) software. It's available as a free download from www.hometheatershck.com . It works very well, the learning curve isn't to steep and there is plenty of support at HTShack.
