Things you don't see anymore.

Also drivers in general actually understanding traffic rules and the flow of traffic. Just idiots everywhere these days. People who in no way should have ever gotten a license to operate a vehicle.

I don't know what if any DRIVING test is administered in AZ, but it doesn't look like it is working. I live in a retirement haven, so oodles of drivers in their 80s and 90s. What I notice most, is they don't know how to maneuver in close quarters, like WalMart parking lots, gas stations and such. And, in spite of their cars having BU cameras, they don't seem to know what the orientation is on the screen, or they don't bother to look.

As far as I can tell, many states are just taking the position that "everyone needs to drive, so give them all licenses regardless of (dis)ability."

Illinois just raised the mandatory driving test age from 79 to 86.

I was talking to my mom Sunday, and just reminiscing on things we don't see anymore and she mentioned in-store coffee grinders - and I stopped and thought. Yeah, I haven't seen one of those for 10 or more years.

Not saying they still don't exist in some stores, but where I'm at - all of the stores I used to see them in - gone.

Willoughby's in New Haven has grinders and a selection of beans from all over the world. They roast them across the river in East Haven I think...

Arizona renewed my license by mail at age 80. Only possibe excuse for this laxity is I haven't had any accidents, but, really? Someone my age could be driving really badly with multiple near misses that haven't included a bad accident yet just because of how few miles they drive a year.
My in-laws moved into a big retirement community up on the Northshore in Massachusetts. They got rid of their vehicles as they did not need them anymore. When my father in-laws license was up for renewal I took him to the DMV to get a Valid I.D.
The guy behind the counter says. Let's see if he passes the test for his driver's license first. If he fails I'll give him just an ID.
He passed with flying colors and got a driver's license. His wife and my wife were pissed when we got home, but he has no intention on driving anyhow.
He's 92 and totally with it, exercises everyday and could probably out work most people half his age.
