Thorens TD-160 Tonearm Vibration?

Hey all

About a month ago I purchased a Thorens TD-160 from a very reputable seller on Canuck Audio Mart, at first I thought there may have been a slight motor knock but it wasn’t anything too serious

Now the knocking is a little bit worse but I’m now noticing that my tonearm/cartridge is vibrating up and down the closer it gets to the centre of the record (aka closer to the motor). As far as I can tell there isn’t any extra distortion and definitely no skipping as it starts to vibrate more (thankfully)

I’m thinking this should be fixable by one of Audio Nirvana’s motor knock eliminators, but what do you think?

Does this sound like a bigger issue?

Leaving this up in case someone else runs across this issue but I figured it out

It seems like the record weight I had on was causing the issue, the excess weight on the suspended sub-chassis must have thrown off the balance as removing the weight fixed the issue completely. Putting the weight back on makes the vibration/wobble come back

Suspension on those is a bit finicky and sensitive. But when it is dialed in right, they sound superb. Congrats on your new deck, and getting it in order.

You can probably tune the suspension so you can use it with and without the weight, but it is a bitof a headache the first couple of times.

Definitely less of a headache to just keep the suspension how it is!

yeah these don't really respond well to extra weight. To some degree you can tune the suspension to compensate but too much and it just won't play nice. A lightweight clamp is the better option.
