Thorens TD165 33 1/3 RPM Problem

My Thorens TD 165 will not play 33 1/3 RPM accurately.

On inspection, it appears that the belt is not sitting on the lower part of the motor spindle, it is riding between the 33 1/3 part and the 45.
This, of course, is causing 33 1/3 records to play too fast!

I have changed belts twice and searched for solutions, including suspension adjustment, belt cleaning, motor tilt adjustment etc.

Nothing has solved the problem.

It almost seems that the motor is not protruding enough from under the chassis, but as this isn't adjustable without a hacksaw I have left it alone!

All parts seem original, with red blobs on screw joints and no unusual marks that might suggest a bodge at some point.

Please help!!!

If it's anything like the 166 MKII the motor angle can be tweaked to adjust the belt's ride position.

Also as mentioned, if the belt is too tight or too loose this can have an affect on ride position.

Not being familiar with the 165, is the drive pulley aluminum or delrin, if delrin the wrong belt could have worn a groove in the wrong place from to much tension. If so any subsequent belt would sit in the same groove.

Was having some issues with my 166 so I replaced my table's delrin pulley with an aluminum one, didn't cure my tables issues but the speed was more consistant.

It happens. If it's a proper belt, you could try bending the belt support lift (the part with the "U" shaped end that grabs the belt) downwards just a tinny bit. It should align the belt with the proper part of the pulley. Don't over do it because then you'll have problems with the 45 speed. Easy on the bending.;)

It can definitely happen, didn't mention as its usually so obvious the belt is riding on the lift, something you don't want happening for SQ reasons even if running at the correct speed.
 
It very well COULD BE the pulley is lower...could have got pushed downward in its lifetime. Take two table spoons and use them as fulcrums, opposing sides, and lift the pulley a 1/16th. Test. Another 1/16th if needed. Take it slow and easy...don't bend that spindle.
