The speed of a servo is programed with the arduino. Its pretty simple stuff. A speed controller could drive DC motos at different speeds too, or just gear it down. The loricraft and keith monks just use 1rpm clock motors i belive. about $18 from various places.

I left a bit of play on one of the arm bolts so i can move the arm freely, but ive not found it necassary.

I just stumbled upon this video of an RCM called the Minos XT 800. It looks beautiful, with a very low profile compared to Monks or Loricraft, but I can't find other info on it. Have you ever heard of this thing? It's absolutely gorgeous and I can't figure out where they're hiding the pump.

I had also saw that, i cant find information either. Im guessing its just a small low noise vacuum pump, possibly dc.

Id imagine its in the same price range as a loricraft or a monks machine too.

Hey edd9000, For the two servos are more than one arduino micro controllers needed? Is the filed needed to control it easily shared?

Only one arduino was used. On board can handle several servos. The control programming was simple, I would share it but I dont have access to it right now. www.arduino.cc has alot of information on servo controll.
 
I am reviving an old thread...but thanks to this and a few other similar projects, I completed my own. I had done very little arduino programming, and no servo stuff...it was surprisingly easy. The hard part was the geometry for lifting the arm and moving the arm...that took quite a bit of experimentation, and some RC parts...I am about 90% done now (all the individual parts work, just building the base and final wiring.)
