Time to purge, thoughts?

That would be my thought but I realize there can be personal feelings that can make this tough.
It is, I love having a lot of cool pieces, especially because they all work well. If they were broken or needed work it would make it easier. I think they all sound good (some in their own way) which makes it ever harder. Don't even get me started on how many pairs of speakers I have too

My day of reckoning for speakers is not far away.
I hope to scare up enough cash to get what I really want.
We'll see.

It is not that big of a deal. I will keep at least a few pieces that I like in the meantime. The hard part is paying the Marantz tax. I don't want to pay an ungodly amount for a 38 watt receiver.

what do you really want?

Maybe the OP could work a swap in BT for some of his gears for a chunk of 2238. Should be some out there in collections that the owner would keep a different unit of his and wants something like the Eight or the 1060.

Dang those 2238s are priced really high, separates territory but if one wants some particular Marantz units that is the going price.

Only one I'm familiar with is the 1060. I had mine recapped, replaced power transistors etc. Whether needed I don't know. Added a repro wood cabinet.

I personally have little use for a tuner in a receiver.

I also have modern Rogue tube amps. The 1060 has a lovely warm vintage sound, for summer. When tube Amp heat is too much. It has many setting options the modern amps have skipped. (O'ring on volume for 3 foot remote grip.)
I saw that O-ring on the volume control and thought oh no!! Then I read the text and now understand. Good idea. :)

I sometimes wish my preamp had a remote. Although it's directly to my right, it's too far away to reach while seated.

If your Eight is in great cosmetic condition, it would tough to find another if you get sellers remorse. Plus they sound very good.

I have a Seven, that I use often. Even if I didn’t, it will be here forever.

Speakers are going to be probably the most important part of your system.
I've heard speakers first so many times over the years and wish I had headed that advice. It would have saved me a lot of money swapping in and out various equipment. No matter how good your amp or receiver is, it can't make a bad speaker sound good. Keep what you like, and sell the rest.
Use the money to buy speakers.

I have many good sets of speakers already, that is part of the problem

Same here. one of my favorite are a pair of Imperial 6's. They aren't the greatest speaker, but they play anything well, play nice with tube or SS and I never feel the need for tone controls using them.

Get a sweet set of really good speakers. Magneplanar if that is to your liking, Dahlquist, higher end ∞, some of the new speakers of all kinds, towers seem to predominate. This gets me to put my monkey coffins in the third bedroom. some nice ones there but they are not what is in the soundroom.

Don't. I've been a Marantz fan for a long time. One reason is the symmetrical layout of there bards and in many cases, ease of repair and restore. But you can get something just as good or better for less money.
The Marantz tax has gotten way out of control. 11 or 12 years ago I payed so much less. A couple examples are a 140 power amp in its original sales and shipping boxes with documentation and packaging for $100. The issue with it was the meter lights didn't work. I payed around $120 for a model 120 scoped tuner with a like new bright scope. Both were very clean. I payed $200 for a very clean 1060, and $100 for a 1030 that still had the plastic protector over the face plate.

I'll put in a plug for the NAD 7120. It's one of my favorite small receivers, was made in Japan, and of the 4 or 5 that have crossed my path all have been working and kept working.

It's also got a lot of punch and quality for a small size/footprint and can work well in an office setting, and I have mine in my home office space with some KEF Coda speakers. It also has a very nice phono if you want to add a small turntable for that space
