Hey, @Buck Rogers, did you just use the rails and tack the spandex under them, maybe doubled over? Or did you pull the rails, make "socks", sewing a tube together then stretch it over the top "end cap" and down the length? Something else? Sorry to butt in but I thought it would be germane. I've got a pair of what I think is an earlier version and the foam was trash when I got them.

On one we removed the tops and bottoms, Then Stapled and re-glued the caps.

On another one the customer stapled around the bottom rail then added a metal beauty strap, Looked cool.

Yikes that was at least 30 years ago...

I'm slightly confused about the tweeters used in the Timewindow's. I thought that the Phillips tweeters had a " Notch" on the front lens cover? The ones on my set are flat, no visible notch. I do see a small clear film on the mesh

Thanks for the reply @Buck Rogers. Think I'm going to try making a tube of spandex and stretching it over the top end cap to start. It's likely to be kind of difficult to make it look presentable as I'm not much of a tailor but, what the hell, If that don't work, I'll try something else ... The little rubber press-on feet that they put on the tweets are probably going to look like a cold day in a cashmere sweater ... The two that I have appear to be mutts as they don't have consecutive serial numbers - 32589 & 32656. They ARE the same type though with what appear to be Heppner woofs and Phillips tweets as below in edited, borrowed pic:

Are your bog standard Time Window with all updates from serial number somewhere above 10000 to almost 50000. I got one pair of these new and another pair have been through here.

The woofer is a DCM unit, design/manufacture, I don’t know but it was a change. The tweeter is the Philips Mylar dome unit.

I do not believe the OPs TWs are anything like yours except being much earlier versions, not TW1a before some upgrades. But still a great sounding speaker and a steal for the money.

Your speakers have the early Philips woofers.
I have not seen definitive images of the early Philips tweeters but the ones with the rubber bumpers are from later models as mentioned in the reviews.
The ports were symmetric on early TWs, becoming closer to the point of the speaker and with the right side port being higher above the one on the left.

I’m standing on my statement that you have early Time Windows in replacement boxes. As you can see by the reviews you have some great sounding keepers as you say.

Looking forward to your determination of what tweeters your speakers have.

Nice article on these speakers, thanks for sharing They are classic speakers in my book I'll assume that the tweeters are Phillips until noted otherwise.

O.P.'s units do appear to be pretty early and not "1A" from what I've gathered doing web searches since acquiring mine a while back. Certainly earlier than the ones I have. Is that correct?

Those are TW 1s. I had a pair for a long time. Downsized now.

Yes, I bought 27000 range s/n in early 1980 from DCM. Yours are probably from later in 80, maybe 81. But 50000 was about the last TW and I’d have to look but think that was 84.

There was this cute female who had Time Windows in her dorm room (she was spoiled rotten). I have no idea which version.

I remember her well, but I can't recall how the speakers sounded. Or if I even listened to anything from her stereo.

Oh I believe DCM was building Time Windows every day back then and trying to improve the speaker, lower the cost of production and supply the increasing demand.

Those TAC pages talk about some of the changes during early production and they mention their s/n from one pair, about 100 lower than yours and describe those similarly to what we see in your speakers.

I haven’t seen positive proof, pictures or written info about other changes and when exactly they happened based on serial number that made them like the ones @tgmartin posted, the most common TW before the 1a showed up.
