I recently acquired 2 pairs of vintage headphones made by Tip-Top Audio. They're cosmetically in perfect condition minus the swapped out cable on the 8127 and the replacement mesh inside the 8175.
They're great for decoration, but I bought them with the hopes that I can fix them up and keep them functional as well. They've obviously been repaired in the past and I'm suspecting that at least one of them is wired completely incorrectly, but I can't confirm this because I have nothing to compare it to. I've never worked on these types of headphones before, and although they seem quite simple, I'm not the greatest expert on wiring and don't know too much about electrical components so a little stuck at the moment. I've drawn up the schematics of both headphones attached with this post, and also provided some photos. Although I think they're basically the same thing, they seem to be wired up completely differently from each other. Please let me know if this is not the case. Hopefully someone can tell me what's wrong with them. I'm fairly certain that the cable on the white pair is broken because I only get continuity on the ground cable and not the other two, but the black one seems to be okay. The issue with the black one is that while one side worked quite alright, the other was very very quiet. I suspected that the resistor for the volume control could be the culprit but wanted to ask here before desoldering anything. It's the Mono-Stereo switch in both of these headphones that actually got me really confused because I can't seem to be able to figure out what pin does what. Any help would be appreciated. The markings in purple/pink are measured resistance between two terminals/wires, and they were all measured in the "loud" setting. I hope they help. Can provide more photos/measurements if needed.
P.S. Please excuse the components I used in the schematic, they were the most similar looking ones I could find in the program.
