Tips for buying speakers with a 500-1000 usd budget? (used)

For anyone wondering I actually ended up buying a used pair of monitor audio silver 100 g6s. I found a pair locally listed for a very decent price. I was very curious how modern stuff would compare to older speakers and I hadn't ever even heard any decent modern bookshelves so I figured I could always resell them if I didn't enjoy their sound. For now I am planning on using these for a while. Really like them, they get very low especially when you see just how small they are. Still need to get some stands out of storage though. Truly, in Europe- I would look at later model Tannoys. Anything from the late 1980s and newer.

Mercury, Saturn, Eyris, Sensys, Precision, Platinum, Revolution, Definition and Dimension are all good series for Tannoy. They will definitely sound good at low and high volume- there's very little change in the sonic character of any of these, as volume levels go from low to high. That's fairly rare, IMHO, even on many quite good speaker lines. They're also all pretty "gutsy", and will do well on a wide variety of musical genres.
