I quit smoking on this day 25 years ago cold turkey & haven't had one puff of a cigarette since!
I was a chain smoker about a pack & a half a day and another pack if I hit a club or bar in the evening.
I might not be typing this if didn't quit and I will be 55 next month.

So here are some dancing bananas

My dad died at 65 of a heart attack in '85 & my stepfather died of lung cancer a year later and I quit August 17, 1986.

You can do it too. It's not as hard as it seems. I never thought I would ever quit & it was the first time I ever tried.

That's just Great news there, CB!

I never became a smoker, but I know how hard it is to kick any type of habit.

I quit for 18 years, hardest thing I ever did, started again 5 years ago, one of the stupidest things I ever did (guess I have done a lot of stupid things). Anyway, finally getting mentally ready to quit again, gonna be 49 next month. Gonna be hard

The important thing is not to be around any smokers which isn't that easy to do sometimes as you probably know already. I wish you luck. You can do it. Find an alternative.

Congrats! I am a quitter but honestly I don't remember how long ago, maybe close to 10 years ago or more? I quit cold turkey too.

I don't ever think about it anymore but can't stand to be around smoker's anymore especially in bars.

I quit when they were only $1.50 a pack! :sigh: :thmbsp:
Ha! I quit when the damned things were 50-60¢ a pack! I remember riding down to Kresge's on my bicycle to buy cartons of Alpines for my Mother for $2.70 a carton, and I learned to smoke from her. Laid them down one day at work and never smoked again, quit "cold turkey" over 35 years ago.

I'm am not bragging about this but I started smoking when I was 22 in 69 and still am while most of my peers back then were smokin at 13-14-15 in the 60's! In the 70's I started with 1 1/2 packs a day and by mid 70's I smoked 3-4 packs a day. In the 80's back down I went 2 packs a day and have stayed there until present day. I know it's a crapshoot but all males in my Family smoked and at least 80% of them died from other cause not the big C,none had breathing illnesses and the ones that died averaged over 80 yrs young. We out here can not smoke inside public buildings or in our Cars with Children in them,it's the law! The funny part is that I have annual check-ups for breathing and such and still get 100% results back.I've thought of quitting but my MD and I have had several over time, all say they do/did not want me to stop, something about it would be to hard on my system and could cause other problems! Did you ever hear such a crock of BS and yet who really knows? Now money wise yes I would have had more but money has never been an issue and besides I found out long ago that whatever you save in one place you spend it all back somewhere else and never really see any more of it.I guess at his point in my life I would tell anyone never to start to smoke but if they are anything like the people in my youth I'd be wasting my breath,no pun intended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....:)

.....all I can say is, God bless all of you who have quit, and I believe He did....and, Heaven help those of us who continue on....FSC standards in the cigarette paper seriously changed the ballgame toward bad effects a couple of years ago.....

.....my dad smoked heavy all his life, right up to his major stroke in 1976 that took him at 52....why do we smoke the damned things?....I know why we started, it was at one time somewhat glamorous to smoke....and, there was the element of stolen apples because we felt we weren't supposed to as teen-agers....I'm glad it's not considered glamorous anymore....many generations have fallen to smoking tobacco here in America....I'm 62, and should know better....my uncle told me about 20 years ago I wouldn't quit cigarettes until I had the absolute **** scared out of me.....

10 1/2 years no cigs. Miss them "little buddies" badly. My wife is at 11 1/2 years. We both will be buying a carton when the news comes of the end so that we can experience the splender one more time before the end.....

:smoke: :smoke: - my wife and I just as the comet strikes

Its been over ten years for me. Never had any breathing issues until I got older. On advice from my Doc I quit cold turkey and never looked back

Congrats, Bob! I can honestly say that is one bad and expensive habit I never picked up and probably one of the hardest to give up if you do.

Congrats. Sounds like you had an easier time of it than some do. That's the thing, you never know how hard quitting will be for you until it's too late.
