I've been searching for decent FM (Terrestrial) Bluegrass staitons to stream, along with subscription service and free Bluegrass playlist streams. I am primarily a Jazz aficionado, but that's why I like Bluegrass. because I regard Bluegrass as "Country Jazz". Some Jazz standards are actually covered by some Bluegrass artists, that I appricate. But you can hear Pop/Rock in Bluegrass, like The Chicks covering the Fleetwood Mack song "Landslide" in a Bluegrass style. Today, I actually heard a Bluegrass band covering Freddy Mercury and Queen's hit "Bohemian Rhapsody".

So far I have been listening to WDVX (Knoxville) and their shows like "Bluegrass Speical", Bluegrass Country 88.5 Washington, DC, and 181,FM Front Porch Bluegrass station. I prefer a live DJ station so I can learn about the artists and the music, as long as the DJ is interactive. Bluegrass Country seems to have excellent DJs that provide background about the artists and music they are playing. I have just started this streaming journey for Bluegrass, so I am sure there are more than I have listed.

For subscription, I have Apple Music, but I also have LiveXone (formerly Slacker Radio) and they have an excellent Bluegrass Streaming station LiveXone Bluegrass, albeit with no live DJ. But they do interject artists talking about their music at times, just before they play the artist selection that was just talking.

WICN-FM, 90.5 Worcester, MA...Tuesday nights 7-10 PM is Bluegrass, Wednesday nights is "The Folk Heritage," and Thursday nights is "Against The Grain," an amalgum of styles. Normally NPR and "Jazz for New England" during the day and late nights. Pretty sure they stream everything ;)

Thank you! I will give them a try. The station is now bookmarked. I see that WICN is a Jazz station. Fantastic. I spend 99 percent of my time here on the Jazz playlist thread, so I am a Jazz aficionado at heart. I have listened to most of the Jazz stations in the US via stream, but not WICN, as far as I can remember.

Last night (Eastern time), I was listening to Bluegrass Country's show "Music From Foggy Hollow" with Mike Kear. The show originates from Australia, even though it is broadcast in Washington, DC. Excellent live show with great Bluegrass, good discussion about the music, and interesting anecdotes and jokes. A truly enjoyable and fun show.

I agree with your comparison of Blugrass to Jazz. This is especially apparent when seen live as you see the musicians all taking their turn and one band member usually directing. The Infamous Stringdusters come to mind... Anyway, you might want to try Pandora and just plug in any Bluegrass band to get the party rolling. Steeldrivers, Trampled by Turtles, Allison Kraus, etc. That's how I expanded my knowledge of the genre. There is some really good stuff out there.

Thanks Jim. Much appreciated. I have Pandora, but have not streamed via them in ages. Probably 10 years or more. I do most of my streaming via TuneIn because I prefer FM stations with live DJs, but when you are learning a genre, it may be best to go with a streaming service that has the album pictured with title and band information.

I have not tried Apple Music yet either. I only have Apple Music and LiveXone (formerly Slacker Radio) for pay subscriptions. Apple because of my iPhone and iPad, and LiveXone because it's only $25 a year, and I have had it for over 12 years now, so the stations I have created are curated perfectly to my taste by now. But for that low price, you can't "Select" music. You can only select bands or songs or genres, and a station is formed to your preferences, and songs are played that you can like or dislike to mold the station to your taste - commercial free. You get unlimited skips forward, but for $25, you can not replay or rewind a song, as that would be "selecting" a song, and that is not included in the budget plan. But I honestly like it very much. The LiveXone Bluegrass station is, so far, fantastic.

@BillyBatts , the three WICN programs I noted are all live DJ run during their time slots, usually 2 or three tunes/songs at a time. Sometimes live local artists come in for a short bit, though not usually on the bluegrass show

Also, cannot believe I missed it, New Hampshire Public Radio has a folk/bluegrass program on Sunday evenings. I seem to always just catch the last 15 minutes or so before 10 PM. Terresttially, they broadcast the same programming to multiple cities/townes in NH over different FM frequencies, but we just say "Alexa, play New Hampshire Public Radio" to our Echo Dot and we get it...followed by what is essentially BBC Radio 4 until 5 AM when NPR's Morning Edition starts.

Come to think of it, we get 'ICN on the Echo Dot as well ;)

Bluegrass Ramble 91.3 KBCS Seattle. Sunday's 12pm-3pm, not a bad program, used to be better.
Been stretching what is considered bluegrass.
I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to bluegrass. I prefer that high lonesome sound. My previous post of picking on skynyrd being a exception.

WNCW 88.7 from Spindle NC (Asheville area) plays a lot of Bluegrass. They also have broadcast from these stations: Charlotte 101.3 - Greenville 97.3 - Boone 92.9 - WSIF Wilkesboro 90.9.
