Weber - Piano Sonatas Op 39&49, Invitation to the dance
Jean-Francois Heisser-p
I love this SACD!! I really didn't know that Weber was a virtuoso pianist. The sonatas are exquisite --caught between the classical form and his romantic perspective. Everyone knows the Invitation to the Dance from the Berlioz orchestration, but the original piano piece also has its charms.
The period Erard piano really helps with the illusion of stradling period styles ( wouldn't work as well on a modern concert grand) and the gorgeuos SACD recording is the frosting on the cake. Highly recommended!!
I'm going to order the score and give it a spin on the piano.
