First off.... great score with the Larry Brown!! I have never heard that one.

The 500 is beyond all of my expectations. I graduated from the 200, and it's worth every penny in difference. For guys like us, Nagaoka is a perfect option.

But........it`s a Shibata and you have to be careful with the aligning of this type of needle tip must be very secure, other wise you ruined your grooves.

Shibata on a boron cantilever.............. MMMMM I love it.

Oh, yes. The Cleff was a very lucky shot on the Ebay.com, no other bidders, but still, it cost me an arm and a leg. ( ridiculous shippingrate to Europe )

Yes, thanks for the tip. I spent about half an hour mounting it, until I was satisfied. I have caught myself just watching it track effortlessly along the record - with the Moth arm, it's a thing of beauty.

My best scores on vinyl recently have been in the soul department. For jazz, I am absolutely hooked on the CD Atlantic reissues.

Ok Poppa watching is nice, but you be better off with the use of a Tractability Test Record.

And listen to that awful testtone`s, till you d`nt hear any distortion on the tractability tracks.

B.G. in Hi-Fi -- Remastered CD

Benny Goodman

1954/1989 Capitol Jazz

Recorded on November 8, 9, 16 & 17, 1954. Includes liner notes by Dan Morgenstern. On this all-around excellent CD, Benny Goodman performs a dozen selections (mostly Fletcher Henderson arrangements) with a big band filled with sympathetic players in 1954 and eight other numbers with a pair of smaller units that also feature pianist Mel Powell and either Charlie Shavers or Ruby Braff on trumpets. Although the big-band era had been gone for almost a decade, Benny Goodman (then 46) plays these swing classics with enthusiasm and creativity and shows that there was never any reason for anyone to write him off as "behind the times." ~ Scott Yanow

The Great American Songbook -- Remastered 2 CD Set

Nancy Wilson

2005 Blue Note Records

One of three excellent Nancy Wilson compilations issued simultaneously by Capitol Jazz in 2005, THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK cherry-picks from the many standards that the pop/jazz vocalist recorded for the label between 1959 and '69. Here the often-underrated singer, who delicately balances emotion and clear enunciation, works with ensembles both large and small, and her various collaborators include conductor Billy May, saxophonist Cannonball Adderley, bassist Ron Carter, and pianists George Shearing, Hank Jones, and Joe Zawinul.

Just a few highlights of this collection are a rollicking big-band rendition of "What a Little Moonlight Can Do," a sauntering take on the Harold Arlen/Truman Capote-penned "Sleepin' Bee," and a gorgeously minimal version of "In a Sentimental Mood," which showcases Wilson's mellifluous voice. Although Wilson truly shines in a small-group setting, she can capably front an orchestra, as revealed on "It Never Entered My Mind" and other numbers. With 44 tracks that boast beautifully remastered sound, this well-compiled two-disc set should help to deservedly raise Wilson's profile.
