O my what have I done, I put a bid on two decks a ONKYO TA 2700 mint condition with a new belt installed and a JVC TD V621 one owner mint condition, Didn't think I would win one. Than while looking I bought a clean mint condition ONKYO TA 2600 with manual, remote, and box it came in .Owner says he used it twice and put it away and it looks it. So since it was less than 12 hours from the end of bidding I'm pretty much locked in. So the bidding ended and I won both the JVC TD V621 excellent deck have 1 already love it great recorder and the ONKYO TA 2700 in bidding. Now I have 3 decks coming, I think I'm up to 10 cassette decks but I love the music they give I mostly record from XM radio. To all you tape heads good recording and enjoy.

That's a lot of decks. Good luck with the new ones coming in.
You must rotate them in and out, I would guess.
I got a few myself.
 
My tape head quota must be a few hundred, most are boomboxes and Walkmans but I love them, one of the coolest music technologies ever. If you want to try something different check out field recorders, UHER 124 or 160 AV, Technics 646D, Marantz CD-XXX, JVC KD-XXX, big beefy recorders that look really cool and are a little different.

My goal is to purchase some really nice higher end decks that hopefully will sound good and have some decent life lift in them. There are some really nice ones out and some bad ones, For me I've found I like JVC AND ONKYO features and sounds I look just for those 2. Since purchasing these three I'm going to sell 3 of my lower end decks.

never looked at Tascam (Teac)? If not then you're overlooking the pro industry standard, but they aren't cheap.

Nice looking decks I have 2 JVC TD V621, 1 FOR 10 years now alsome deck and one on the way, ONKYO TA R500 great deck, ONKYO 6711 very nice higher end deck and a ONKYO TA 2600 and 2700 on ther way both mint condition.

My Teac C-3RX looks out of the box new and operates the same, it's the consumer version of the Tascam 122B. If you've ever looked at Tascam decks you know they aren't cheap, I stole this for $175 a few months ago lol.

The Nakamichi had to be the best deal though, price was $.00, that's right, FREE. Working on a musicians house he offered it to me not working, they used it to make demo tapes, needed a new idler wheel, forget what I paid for that, replaced myself.

Great price, were do you do most recording from, I do most of mine from XM radio I've got about 15 recordings of blues 12 or more Rock and about 4 Jazz that will be doing more of during the winter months. And some from CD and albums.

Update I received the 3 decks I purchased making my total of 10, first one ONKYO 2600 arrived beautiful condition put a tape push play and nothing? Looked inside and found melted capstans belt message seller and he agreed to refund 125.00 for inconvenience and get new belt installed should be done with in 2 weeks 3 days later other 2 arrived the ONKYO 2700 and JVC TD V621 both are in mint condition and recording music and playing great.
 
Y’all are lightweights. I’ve got over 40 cassette decks, and know a few guys with double that! I have probably close to 1000 prerecorded tapes, and 300+ self recorded tapes and twice that many sealed NOS tapes of all kinds. You are just getting started!

I like the JVCs, can’t say I know much about the Onkyos. Very nice condition Teac. Very nice looking deck. I need one of those. (Well, not NEED). Little trivia: the Tascam version can be seen behind & to the left of Frasier in his radio broadcast booth in the 1993-2004 sitcom “Frasier”.

Well darn just when I thought I had all you guys beat in cassette decks, I tell you I'm really enjoying cassette recorder music never liked prerecorded they were always recorded under 0 db and sounds muddled to me. I like getting my in the +2 +4 that's were the play back sounds good to me.
 
The older prerecorded tapes used to sound pretty bad, say pre-1981. And any of the Columbia Record & Tape Club or Record Club of America (remember getting the catalogs monthly?) versions (usually easily identified by the white shells with poor printing and j-cards with one sided printing) were less than stellar and many didn’t even have dolby. After that, the quality increased exponentially in both tape quality, shell material, precision and recording levels.

I have plenty of prerecorded tapes from the late 80’s & 90’s that peak at + 6-8. With no distortion. Now that you have some nice decks, if you find an album for $0.50 at a thrift that you wouldn’t mind owning, give it a shot. Used to be you could find great albums all day for next to nothing, but again, now that cassettes are having a mini resurgence, most places are tapped out and flipped on ebay. 15 years ago I used to buy 30-40 at a time and they were 4 for $1. If it was a lemon, just steal the pressure pad and toss it for a quarter. A lot of old tapes need the pressure pads super glued back on.

I love the whole cassette experience. Recording, playing, fixing looking for recordings. I never thought of seeing what the quality is from either XM or Spotify, recorded to tape. That would be a good way to pick up some missing songs & albums. Do you use a dedicated DAC or a cell phone with a digital connection?

No DAC OR PHONE I'm old school everything is connected with high quality cable direct RCA cables running through a Yamaha AS 2100 integrated amplifier, no blue tooth wifi or any of the modern stuff the amplifier is 3 years old one of Yamaha's higher end amplifiers.
 
My just purchased ONKYO TA 2700 with a new belt has been recording and playing great but twice it's crinkled the tape I cleaned all capstans pinch rollers and demagntize heads all before operating it.I took the tape out straightened it out with a pencil in the tape wheel and than it played fine. I've never really took the slack out before playing because I've really never had any of these issues. Could the tape path be slightly out of line and do any of you take up the slack before playing. My JVC has automatic tape slack take up. Any INFORMATION is greatly appreciated.
