Too Many Notes?

The 1975 Oxford version you have there is the one that Trouser Press magazine said, was enough to send cocky guitarists back to their practice books. The one I was lucky enough to have seen is the one you referenced from “Flypaper” recorded at the Bottom line in 1983. Thanks as always.
That's what it was, "Flypaper". I had a friend (lived @ Ann Arbor MI) who subscribed and he copped for himself and me a lotta those cassette recordings avail @ Flypaper, one of the best being Gloom And Doom From The Tomb.

Here's a video of Satriani being relatively restrained:

I don't listen to much "shredding" with a gazillion notes. But, that is a reflection of what moves me musically. I would never say that playing fast and furiously is any less a legitimate means of musical expression than, say, J. J. Cale's style (which I love). It obviously moves the people who play that way and uncounted numbers of fans. Duane Allman once said there is no such thing as bad music. He wasn't speaking of skill or technique. He was pointing out that music is not a reflection of ethics. It is a beautiful gift that moves us. If what I like doesn't move you, or even irritates you, that's ok.

Joe was only playing a buck full of noodles there, not a bath tube full as usual... trumpet player is outstanding, and Grace Potter is very easy on the eyes !

I think it's funny that you guys are posting all these videos of guys playing a lot of notes/second in a thread where the OP is saying he doesn't really enjoy that kind of thing.

Yeah, it happens, and it happens A LOT @ every thread I've ever started b/c I love it when the original topic is challenged and even goes careering ... b/c -- not always but usually -- good content emerges from the other side.

Thread content "lives" when it becomes a discussion rather than (strict) adherence to a diktat.

IMHO, Satriani, Bonamassa and the like are rather médiocre compared to most French Manouche guitar players of the Golden Era of Gipsy Jazz... :D :D :D

Here's Tchan-Tchou Vidal playing La Gitane, in 1960 :

Sorry : no FX pedals, no Hi-Gain, no Stack of Amps, not even Electricity here... But listen to that Tone, Speed and Dexterity, plus the Melody !

T

I totally agree. They want to show off their talent, and then ruin the song. Reminds me of some of the great Boxers....do silly dances, mock the other boxer, and sometimes get beat.

This really was a great Thread Starter for those who like players that can play more than a handful of chords.

What do you think would happen here if I started a thread saying I don't like Taylor Swift? That's right, everyone would chime in with their favorite Swiftie song to prove me wrong :)

Not seeing a lot of (if any?) links to TS videos here^^^^^
Not surprising given the AK demographics.

According to a quick search. And I heard talking heads discussing this the other day on the radio.

"Taylor Swift has generated a total of approximately $1 billion in equivalent brand value for the NFL since she began attending games in September 2023, according to Apex Marketing Group. This figure is not direct revenue, but rather the value of the media exposure she created across TV, digital media, radio, and print, which significantly boosted the NFL's profile and viewership, particularly among women and new fans. "

Pretty sad when you watch something only to look at something totally unrelated.

To each there own. I think its awesome she is generating new fans of the game.

But I get how some people are
Do you really think she is drawing New Fans to Football? Or are people just so bored in life that they want to follow her every move?
