I have too many speakers - I already know what the most common reply to this thread will be - BUT I live in a very small apartment, and they're overflowing the closets. I'm pretty set on which I want to keep and which I want to sell, but I'm curious to see if anyone has any thoughts that differ from mine, which may change my mind.

So here's my current list (somehow listed here, it doesn't seem THAT crazy -- but in a tiny apartment, it feels like a lot)

Nearly all of em are recapped with polypro, if that matters.

Biguns
-Genesis 110 (I love these speakers -- I don't think Genesis gets its due: the tweeters are really special)
-Advent 5002 (I picked these up recently, haven't had oodles of time to tinker)

Bookshelf
-KLH 101 (I read a lot that these are from after KLH's peak -- but only by 1 year -- they sound great to me)
-Wharfdale W20D (For what they are, they're impressive -- but they are what they are: unsealed with super stiff suspension)
-Acoustic Research AR7

Nearfields
-Realistic Minimus 7 (the original black ones -- fiberglass stuffing, not acrylic)
-JBL Control 1 (I don't hate em, but I think the Minimus 7s sound better in nearly every way, which surprised me)
-Fostex SS-1 (impressive for what they are -- but there's only so much a 2.5" driver can do)

So, what do yall think?

That's essentially my plan -- but if someone had a thought about something "special" about one of them, I might consider hanging on to it -- something like that. Before I start listing speakers, I don't want to ditch something I'll one day regret.
 
Maybe just start listing and keep one pair that doesn't sell. Start over, we all do it at some point.
 
The whole "keep what you like" or "whatever sounds best to you" type of response is quite lame.

He is looking for other opinions to compare and contrast to his own which is a natural thing to want to do when decision making. If he wanted to make the decision based on his own thoughts only, he wouldn't have started the thread at all.

To the OP.......I would keep the min7 and ar7. They are compact, they do many things well, and they will likely always have a place in any kind of variety of systems you will have cobbled together.
 
What about a nice set of Vandersteen 2Ce or Dahlquist DQ-10, or 20, or some nice Fortés. Selling a pile of speakers may free up the room and the funds necessary to move up a bit in speakers. There are lots of them out there. Anyone with an idea and a workspace could build speakers and many became successful doing that.
 
The jbl controls aren't really bookshelves, they're satalites. Designed to work with the sb1 or sb5 subs. They're really good at a more ambient use, you've likely heard them at countless restaurants.

They sound good, but need a sub.

I would definitely keep these. You are correct about the Burhoe tweeter. It's closely related to the EPI inverted dome tweeter designed by the same person.

I would aslo keep the Advent 5002 if the wood veneered cabinets are in nice shape. The dome tweeter used in the x002 series was much improved over the fried egg tweets that preceeded it.

Your thread title says "which should I keep", but your poll says "which should I sell?"

I agree with everything said above.

There is a fan base for the Genesis, but I never found them to be long-term keepers. (just my two cents)

One suggestion - whenever you find something new, make a point to get rid of something in your collection. That way the stack in the closet does not grow. (note to self)

Get rid of the lot and just buy more.:D

I would highly recommend replacing the Minimus 7 with Canton Plus S as a good start.
