Too many speakers? Which should I keep?

I don't know all of those speakers, so take this with a grain of salt, but maybe pair of what you have by similarity, then trade off the ones that you like least. Then use the proceeds to move to something different that you haven't lived with before in a different style.

I have a lot of KEF speakers and like them so I'm biased, but maybe some inexpensive KEF Coda 8's that could give you a different perspective and decide if you want to continue to add more from that style. By checking out lower end ones, you aren't hurting too much if you don't like them and trade them off, but it might give you ideas on where you'd like to spend more money over time.

I would keep the speakers with the most unique design features because they will be hard to replace sonically. For me that would be the Fostek.

None of them. Sell them all and combine funds to get one great set of speakers. But I am a consolidator by nature, and thats how I approach audio. I would sooner have one excellent pair of speakers over 6 or 8 pair of middle of the road ones. Others don't do things this way, and would have a different opinion.

You have to have a favorite. But if your not sure sell them all and start over. Its obvious you are not happy and I know these are trying times but I would start all over if you can't be enthusiastically in love with one of them. Its like you hve been always in love with a split windowed vet. Then why would you buy anything else. Lets say you have wanted a pair of Altec model 19's. Why settle for JBL 4300 series when its the Altecs you love. If you haven't found that special speaker then sell them all and go on a search. Make it an adventure. Its more fun that way.

Took me 13 years to pick the speakers I wanted and to finally make the deal to come to fruition last month. But I didn't sell my other speakers. I now have the brunette I have always loved and the fiery new redhead I have been so wanting for many years. No blondes allowed. The brunette is old school producing everything as if your were at a concert hall enjoying live un amplified music. The redhead is producing recordings as if you were in the studio with the sound engineer, producers, and artist making the final tweaks to the mix before sending the master to be made into a million CD's or streamed by todays tech-heads. The speakers aren't in the same room either. You wouldn't want to mix redheads and brunettes? Or Fords and Ferraris.

I'm with you on this. I'll always choose one really good "whatever" over multiple mediocre ones.

Had you rattled off a list of a bunch of very nice, vintage, collectable speakers....you would likely have gotten the kind of response you were expecting. Instead, you are getting the opposite.....sell them all or close to it. And I would agree with that given what is in your list. As I said, i would keep the min7. Good little speaker, and by the way, zilch designed a crossover for it that makes it much better. He did a good amount of R&D, posted graphs etc. to show what the mods improve upon relative to the factory product. So, since it's a popular enough of a product that tinkerers are redesigning it, i say keep them. Move the rest along. The min7 with zilch's mods along with a pair of small format subs would likely be much better than anything else there and if nothing else a great small apt system.

That's fair, they're not near fields.

I really remembered these as being designed as nearfields. In checking on the JBL website, they are/were - which is why they make excellent fills. I knew I'd seen them as nearfields in some studios. I would imagine the fact that they're decent nearfields make them well suited as satellites and fills.

Hey all, thanks for the feedback and help. As of today, the Advents and Wharfedales are gone. I need to make some repairs to the KLHs and the JBLs need a refoam, but will also be going shortly. I guess I should have given some context, I'm getting laid off for a few months, and it seems silly to have a pile of speakers sitting unused or seldom used when I could sell them.

I've had, and loved my Genesis 110s forever, I had/have no real intentions of selling them.

I made the thread because I wanted to make sure there wasn't something I was missing in this pile of speakers, some sleeper I'd overlooked or something that I'd one day regret selling. This thread was very helpful, thanks! And selling these speakers will cover a monthish of rent!
