Toshiba SC-335 Amp + Preamp + ST-335 Tuner

Hey everyone. At Goodwill I found a Toshiba SC-335 Power Amplifier along with the matching SY-335 Preamlifier and ST-335 Tuner. All in 100% perfect working condition, and perfect cosmetically except being yellowed from smoke. They look a lot better after a cleaning, but not as shiny as they once were. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cleaner to remove heavy smoke stains without doing any damage to the lettering?

Most importantly it puts out a VERY sweet sound! It sounds amazing to my ears; powerful, warm, great dynamics; just awesome. As I've read it's 40 WPC and from the late 1970s. The Tuner seems to pull in very good reception and has a nice, smooth flywheel dial. This is my first vintage system, but certainly not my last! I'm definitely hooked for life.

One last thing: The meter lights in the power amp are out. Does anyone know which bulbs I need and where I might find them? I searched but couldn't turn up anything. Not a big deal but it would be nice to see them lit again. Thanks!

Are there any markings on the lamps? Looks like your tuner needs lamps too.
One way to clean the face plates is to remove them and wash them in the sink with dish soap and a soft cloth. Follow up with some carnuba car wax.
Congrats on the nice score~

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah it looks like the lamp bulbs towards the middle of the Tuner meters are out as well. I haven't taken anything apart yet but I'll do that soon and take a look at the bulbs.

Nice looking little separates. I would have been all over them if I saw them at a thrift. Congrats.

My goodness they are very nice looking pieces of kit..........i also would have jumped on them, knocking old ladies and wheelchair bound thrift store browsers out of my way in a blind panic to get to them !!!!!!!

I remember selling those and the receivers of the same vintage from the mid-70s. They were, indeed, a great sounding setup but didn't last long in the line up, which would explain why we don't see many today.

I actually bought one of the preamps for myself, tore the guts out of it and built Dr. Leach's Low-TIM preamp into it. That was fun.....

Cheers,

David
