Tractrix horn for a K-55V {cornwall}

Does anyone know where I can find a tractrix horn to
replace the existing horns in the Cornwall 1's?
I'm not at all worried about altering the motherboard.

Also is there a upgrade to the diaphragm for the K 55V drivers.

That's interesting…I wonder ... About the sound quality of the higher frequencies. Then again throwing in another network between the mid's/ highs will deteriorate, or at least has the potential to deteriorate the sound quality of the higher frequencies... well... at least now I have something else to think about...thanks Mr. James

there will be no problems with top end the horn and the driver are both superior to what Klipsch sells. a good two way requires better wider band driver compared to a good three way and yes one less crossover is a good thing.

I think I may couple these with my K-55V 's ( with upgraded diaphragms) and get a set of Dave's new -tweeters. BUT..in the back of my head I have a set of2402's that may or may not be of use....

I don't know of any other companies making new Tractrix horns. Maybe look out for take offs from the KLF20/30 or CF3/4 or buy the LTH142 with an appropriately sized driver.

truth be told -- I may take your advise on the two way...
 
If you contact Bob Crites, they might possibly be able to steer you in the right direction, and it isn't cost prohibitive to ask them questions.

I personally don't think there is anything that magical about tractrix and largest horn you cram in a cornwall sized box with a 2" throat will sound best.

Moray's advice on the two-way is solid. I've heard a pair locally years ago (I believe he's a member here) and planned to go that direction myself but I dragged my feet. Then I heard KI-396-SMA-II from the Klipsch permanent installation line and decided to go that direction instead.

Building your own three way will be challenging. I know that Bob Crites has been working on a trying to build a 3-way Cornscala with the FaitalPRO horn for many years now without a lot of luck.

......and so it's known by others who have not seen/heard the KI-396..... it is a two-way speaker! In my opinion, you can think of it as a 2-way Cornwall on steroids though others might differ in that opinion.

My opinion on that is it's more of a 2-way Chorus on steroids as it uses a very similar woofer to the Chorus models and has the same sized front baffle. It's just all housed in a slightly undersized trapezoid box. My ultimate plan is to build a pair of Chorus sized cabinets and transplant the internals of the KI-396 into them for a better low end response.

The impetus of this was to use the K-55V because I have them but Im interested in what the 2" throat has to offer that would improve the sound enough to rationalize the swap.
