IF it 'sounds good' ... it is Good! :music: Sure 'looks good!'

I have a Panasonic boom box that I've had since the early 80s. It's 'all beat up'. Drug it all around the world with me. It's taken 'a beating' for sure. The radio still works perfectly and it sounds simply wonderful!! Unreal really. Sensitive built-in EQ too. I've used it daily in my 'high-humidity garage' for the past 24 years. Sounds Great! Moral of the story ...

Panasonic made 'good quality gear' back in the day !!

I see 120 watts power input so that would work out to maybe 20 wpc (rms) for the four channel receiver. See various figures on the advertised output for it. Lots of features on that unit too. Good score for that money. The Panasonic equipment is usually not so high powered but seems to be pretty reliable.

My buddy had one mint but he sold it. Although his was the better built one,National by Panasonic. Also a Technics version,
but a great receiver.

I know those were 42wpc in 2 ch.

Once I get the chance to pull the box housing off and inspect I'll plug in and see what happens.

Honestly, I have to thank the wife for this. I was working and she stopped at an estate sale on her way home from work.

She sends me a text and says hey, I found this Pioneer 6800ii....do you want it? I said "tuner huh" " "how much?". She said 40$.

I'm like well if it's got wood sides, I'll take it. So to my surprise when I get home...she said the "tuner" is in the garage.

I look at it yell to her and say hey honey it's a Panasonic...her reply is it began with a "p"....

Got to love it... thought that counts!

The good ol' days of quad - does it work?
I'd bet it does work. Panasonic did some quirky things with their quad matrix/synthesizing system, get some weird effects. Be fun to play with that receiver and see what all it does.

I like it. Remember, Panasonic made the majority of Curtis Mathis, which was deemed as being high quality.

I worked an industrial show in Orlando where Curtis Mathis was introducing the coming year's products. One of my jobs was to unload the product from boxes and introduce them to the correct spot on the display. Quite of a number of the boxes were marked with Panasonic and all of us workers were puzzled. All the products were Curtis Mathis inside the boxes. Some units were to be open case for display purposes. They had Panasonic stamped under their skins. This would have been somewhere in the mid 80s, but I can't pin time down any better than that.

great receiver, I have restored one sa6400x and running it with four stacked speakers, SB510 and SB610 (horn), from the same year and catalogue. One further sa6800x is on my bench now, power amps are damaged and the relais protection kicks on.
Watch out not short the speaker wires, but if you do, have a pair of spare speaker fuzes at hand. I have many big receicers, maonstwr sansuis, etc. and it is my most loved one, very good sound for 1973 receicer, and pure joy just to look at it, when turned on. I posted some pics in another thread. Enjoy.
