Trouble Removing CS-99’s Back Cover

Thank you doc!

My pleasure, it didn't take to long and we all need a bit of assistance sometimes, at least I do.

All the Pioneer speakers I've worked on the values have been visible . I suggest that you remove one capacitor and take a closer look at it. If legible, take a piece of tape and label it so you can stick it in place of the cap for now. Schematics are not always correct. Good luck!

Will do doc! I’ll be getting into them later on tonight. Will update soon:beerchug:

I have the CS-99.

The front grille comes off *easily* — IF you find and remove the screws hidden in the corners. Otherwise it's tempting to think it's glued in place.

I had no trouble getting the back covers off mine, so it's possible yours got glued-in somehow. The notion someone had of driving a screw into the particleboard to get some leverage seems like it might be worth a try.

I think Ihad the 88's... I forget. The grills come off easily enough one you find the screws. I liked the plywood construction of sides and motor board and decided to repurpose the cabinetry. The veneer is good and is easily refinished. The back panel I tossed on the fire and replaced with MDF. If you end up tearing into the front be advised they glued the living crap out of those joints and the plywood is METRIC. Any little strips or braces need to be planed or cut down to fit. It turned out to be a real labor intensive project.

I re-packaged parts from several CV pairs that were built entirely of unredeemable particle board and vinyl. No way forward with that crap. Great looking Frakenspeakers. My son took them to school and is still using them today.

The keeper part of the CS** is the formed real wood lattice grill work. They don't make 'em like THAT anymore.

I will look for some old pics...
