Tube Audio Design owners-hello!

Thanks Kray! That would be great to have a site in tribute to Paul! I had hoped that his family or associates would eventually do that for us fans of his.

Did I include the "New Class A SE" instructions when I sent you the copy I had? It would be good if you could include that with the info you have on dropbox.

If I forgot to send it, let me know and I'll make sure to do that.

Thanks for your efforts!

Okay this has to stop some where..... I was close friends with Paul's over the years and all this gear was imported from China and Paul made minor modifications once it arrived at his shop. He did not build any of this stuff. He pretty much quit importing the stuff because the suppliers would not give him a steady stream and a bunch of hassles in communication. He started off about 2003 or 4 as the US distributer for Cayin and they took that away because he was selling them at too low a price and the Euro market dealers were complaining. Also I believe that Upscale Audio approached Cayin which did not help Paul's case and that is where the Primaluna line of amps come from (Cayin/Spark industries). Paul was a great guy but he did tend to stretch things a bit from time the time rest his sole....Last I had talked with him not long before his untimely death he was going back into the Fisher restoration biz... I sent him a few customers and the next thing I heard he had passed away.

What has to stop? I think most are aware that he modified amps that's were built in china, no one is disputing that. He was a good man that did good mods and his stuff is highly regarded as such. No need to belittle his work after his passing. His stuff is a lot better value than PrimaLuna.

What the heck is it a full moon or what....... I replied to the above post made by "cries55" and now it is gone. I had to go back in my deleted mail to find it I subscribe to threads I post in here so all posts pop in my inbox...... I was in no way trying to belittle Paul in anyway the man was a very good friend of mine.

Craig, if you could share a little insight to the point of some of Paul's modifications or even just his ideals, I for one, would really appreciate it. I really like the sound and performance of my TAD 60, but I'm not educated enough to see what is or isn't different in this design in comparison to others.

At first, I was thinking it was a copy of a Williamson circuit with the addition of some "bells and whistles." Do you think that's accurate?

Knowing Paul the TAD 60 will be a directly coupled design with a good old tried a true long tailed pair for front end duties Think EICO HF87 or HF89 with a different tube compliment. The output section will be your basic Ultra Linear and I believe it is triode switchable. If Paul spouted off about single ended operation I would forget that it is a huge compromised SE setup. SE can sound way better when coupled with a true single ended transformer and front end design. I used rib pal all the time about that sales gimmick.

Now with all of the above said I have never had a TAD 60 in my hands my experience with Paul's imported amps was earlier then that design. Did he ever distribute a schematic to his customers? If so post it or send me a copy to craig@nosvalves.com and I will comment directly. I have a hand drawn by Paul Schematic for his early Cayin import since I owned one a long time ago. The Cayin were really good for the price point the only real flaw was in the HF response of the output transformers they took considerable smoothing of the HF to not have a overly sharp/raspy sounding top end.

Again I can not state this enough Paul was an exception guy I miss him dearly.

Cheers Craig

Thanks, Craig! I really hope someone produces a schematic, I've never seen one. The only only one I've come across is the Chinese (BEZ) one I found online. I think I remember someone over at A'Gon said Paul sent him one, but it's not been distributed anywhere I've looked, and I've looked plenty ;)

Somewhat late to the party here...
I have a TAD 60 which I love.
At one point it was paired with a TAD 150. But I eventually sold the pre.
I've learned from trial & error I prefer SS pre & tube power.
I have several emails from Paul with answers to my questions during the purchase process.
Don't have documentation for the TAD 60, but did grab the pages from the TAD/Busy Bee web site before it was taken down.
Great thread! Glad to be part of the TAD club. RIP Paul.

Hello everyone,
I was hoping you TAD 150 owners could help answer a question for me. I currently have my dac connected to some TAD Hibachi II amplifiers and I'm wondering if running a TAD 150 Signature pre-amp in between the two will make the setup sound better. Any thoughts? My current setup sounds great but the volume control on the TAD Hibachi amps is very inconveniently located so I would like to purchase a pre-amp.

My current setup is: FLAC files→Audio-gd DAC19 DF→TAD Hibachi II 125 monoblock amps→Fritz Carbon 7 speakers.

Thanks and I appreciate your help!

A friend of mine that sold me my TAD-60 finally got around to selling me his TAD-150 preamp. He's in the Denver area so I decided to take a weekend trip up there and pick it up personally.

So one question. How do I know if this is the Signature model? What mods were done to it?

Now I'm sure ill have to play with some tube rolling, so I'm off to Bartertown :D

I finally setup my personal blog and i'll be adding lots of info, including some nice pics, on the TAD-60 and TAD-150. Those are my first 2 post :)

I'll try to add everything i can for these. If you want to add something feel free.

Thanks for keeping Paul alive! I think others in our small "group" of fans will find your efforts useful. :thmbsp:

So sad to hear about Paul's death. I communicated with him when I had some questions about my Tadac, very friendly and helpful.

I no longer own the Tadac but it's still my favorite sounding Dac (especially when used with Black Glass TungSol 12AU7's)

RIP to a talented man.
