Tube or solid state?

Beautiful piece of furniture at the price if nothing else. Bonus points if anything actually works ... those old Silvertones can surprise you with the sound - and it's FM to boot. If you got the room, go for it!

I'd bet good money it's a tube chassis based on the design of the record changer.

Little more information on the beast ...

Silverstone Model 1066, sold by Sears from 1952-1953. That was one of their top of the line consoles for the period. Mahogany veneer cabinet. Three speed record changer, so haul out those old 78's you've been hoarding! Looks like it also has the nifty super glide table system that automatically slides out when you fold down and store the door ...

8 tube chassis ... Super-Heterodyne (Super in general); ZF/IF 455/10700 kHz; 2 AF stage(s) - triple gang tuners for both AM and FM sections, 12 inch speaker

35.5 x 34.125 x 17.75 inch
118 pounds!
Originally listed at $225

There should be record storage under the changer, and a door that closes over the radio section. The door pivots and slides under the radio which tilts out when in use. Also has a built in antenna.

That's easy ... it's a piece of junk. <G>

Can't really tell the brand, but it looks like a standard AM/Police band, which would put it around mid '40's. Dial's trashed, and missing knobs, so it's had a rough life. I'd only get it if I needed kindling ...

Cool! thanks for all the info, one more question

What is this thing?
Obviously as the title states a floor model radio  Most of these unless a very unique piece or in stereo will have little value, more of the larger table top models such as the telefunken grundig models with nice EL84'S and 12AX7/ECC83 tubes will have far more value than most floor standers, the nice colorful bakelite smaller radios can be very valuable also.

What he said.

Worst case is a cabinet for another tube chassis as in Scott or Fisher. For the price it's a beautiful piece of furniture that needs a loving home. You won't regret it. :music:

Just got back from the pick up. I can barely fit the console in my Camry, we put it in the trunk and tie it down with some rope. I drove straight to Goodwills and unload and took the speaker and amp, the turntable was too hard to take so also donate to GW. My small townhouse is already fill to the top so the WAF reason, not going home with it. The bonus for the day was, the little old lady ask me if I was interested in a bag of tubes that her father kept, and of course I said yes and offer $20.00 for them:D

It's like you show a photo of a pretty girl, ask us if she looks pretty to us, we say yes, and then you show us body part photos after you've chainsawed her up. I has a sad.
Sad for many reasons another console is not complete, the tube amp has little value being a mono amp and will likely sell for very little if any profit. The real profit was in that beautiful cabinet

Oh well to each their own I suppose.

I feel dirty ... I should have said it was crap and let somebody else have a chance at giving it a good home ...

Have to think on the error of my ways while downing a stiff bourbon or two.
<sigh>

Just noticed this thread put me over 4K on posts ... gotta get a life I do ...

Not your fault, you can lead a horse to water but.... I suppose we all have to learn our lessons most of them the hard way. I will be amazed if he even breaks even with that amp for the $$ spent and would have tripled his money quickly if he had sold it complete with the cabinet. I know he doesnt have room to store it but perhaps get a small storage room cheap where he can store stuff short term?

If I was James I would spend the $25.00 to become a subscriber so he can sell things like this locally in BT quickly.

Congrats on 4k posts.
