Tube or solid state?

It is a shame James didn't pick something different to flip while making his living, like fishing gear or vintage books. We wouldn't be subject to these weekly callous train wrecks.

You'll notice we're now all talking about James in the third person. That usually means we're mostly kinda sorta mad at James ...

Bad James! BAD James!! :grumpy:
James if you read this you have to understand we all have your best interests in mind and want you to succeed in your business endeavors, but you are going about it the wrong way. If you ask for help here and we offer advice and suggestions and then you turn around and do the exact opposite of what the majority of people advise you to do then you alienate the ones who are trying to help and eventually we will one by one just ignore your threads.

It is very frustrating to see this, if you are going to do whatever you feel is the best thing to do regardless of what our thoughts are then don't bother asking for help.

We all have made lots of mistakes and no doubt will continue to do so, we are just trying to help you avoid some of the same ones.

Virtually everyone involved in this thread oohed and awed over the cabinet and told you that was the valuable part of this deal, and what did you do? you pulled the amp out donated the cabinet, speaker, TT to charity accomplishing nothing the amp has little value.

In your thread about the trailer full of audio gear and records we all told you that a few pieces of gear had some value but the records were likely of little value and a huge amount of work and what did you decide to do? the exact opposite of what virtually everyone told you was the smart thing to do, you decided to make an offer on the records and pass on the gear.

In another thread you ask about ending an auction early on some speakers for sale because they have not gotten the bids you wanted to see, we all tell you that to do so would be the wrong thing and it makes you look dishonest, at the last I checked you seemed hell bent on ignoring that advice too.

Lets not forget the other closed threads and what happened there either.

Seriously if you wish to continue asking for help and advice take some of it or risk being ignored

Thanks Snow, I will try my best to follow advice from now on.
Good to hear. We are only trying to help you succeed. I have personally pissed away thousands of dollars on gear over the years I will never get back by making bad decisions and do not want to see others make the same mistakes if I can help it.

The single biggest thing you can do to help yourself for the smallest investment is to become a subscriber. You will gain access to Barter Town where you can sell unlimited amounts of gear for no charge other than the once yearly $25.00 fee. You gain another way of selling, a much larger customer base and you are supporting AK to boot.

If you cannot afford to join at this time send me your PayPal address by PM and I will send you the $25.00 I think you will sell enough stuff that you will be able to afford to do so next year.

I browse through and trying to subscribe and can't find the llink to subscribe, can you point me to the right link to subscribe?

Snow, well said and well played! You should get an extra serving of good karma today. It is a learning experience and your advice is on target. If James decides to sell on BT, he'll need to avoid any monkey business to make it work.

Hey now, I must be a bit twisted, I find James post quite fun.:D
That is sad. I think you would feel differently if you were in his position. Buying and selling is his only source of income at the moment, he has lost his ability to work through no fault of his own and is attempting to make a living this way. Better than selling drugs or robbing people I suppose.

Some day you may be struck down with some sudden illness and face the dilemma of what do I do now? Hopefully not.

He has like most of us made many mistakes but I don't think he is a bad person or has evil intent just struggling to make a living and hopefully he catches on and learns quickly enough to survive without going bankrupt.

Only time will tell, once he starts selling stuff in Barter Town if he offers honest descriptions good pictures fair prices, packs well and ships quickly he will succeed if not and he does the opposite he will fail. I am rooting for him to succeed myself. Perhaps I am too forgiving and care more than I should but I cant help but wish him the best.

Of course if he lies and rips people off I will be the first to condemn him too.

Hey now Snow, it was I who said I enjoyed his post, and it was the rest of you all that was all upset that he parted out that old radio, so don't go acting all high and mighty.

Don't cop an attitude with me please, my post was not meant to make you upset nor make you look uncaring only to let you know if indeed you enjoyed laughing at his misfortune it was sad to see.

I think most likely your post was not meant in this fashion

Pulling the tube gear out was the best business decision, as selling consoles is pretty tough. So I found the real humor in the reaction of the other members, not his choice of parting it out.

I did think it was very kind of you to offer to pay for his subscription, but to be honest, I think the last thing that we need is everyone trying to run a business thru Barter Town, I didn't think that was even the purpose of Barter Town.

That being when Barter Town was first split up, I was originally opposed to it, but once I found that the people who were running their vinyl stores out of Barter Town where moved to the media section I couldn't have been happier.

Not sure if Barter Town was designed in mind with people running a business out of or not, you would have to ask one of the mods about that. I doubt James is going to try and run everything he sells through BT for a couple of reasons one being that in order to sell there in a relatively quick manner you have to offer your goods at reduced prices from what you can get from Ebay and he is such a small seller with so few things to sell It really shouldndt put a dent in it even if he did.

Speaking of the records being sold through BT as a business goes not sure who all does this but I do know George Grand is one who sells quite a few but his purpose is not to make money for himself but to donate the funds to a charity which helps kids who are crippled, I don't buy records myself but I like the reason behind him doing this. From what I have read he sells great products at a fair price and grades conservatively and ships fast a real asset to the community IMHO.

As far as most consoles go yes pulling the amp out is usually the smartest thing, in this particular case it is of course just my opinion and doesnt really matter :D I would gladly pay $100.00 for that beautiful cabinet but I would not pay $20.00 for that mono amp.

If nothing else hopefully James can make some contacts through BT local to him which can benefit everyone.
