Tubes Are Unhealthy...

Decided to put my restored HH Scott 222c back into my main system after about a year and a half or so. Man, did I forget about the low level listening addiction with a tubes/horns combination.

With my solid state amps I could get my fix and be on my way. With the tube amp I can easily waste away hours on end listening at 75db and be in audio heaven.

I almost sold this amp recently and I'm sure glad I hung onto it.:music:

I am with you, I recently hooked up a Scott 299d to Altec Model 14's, enjoying the same lower level listening while my better half remains I disturbed.
 
Indeed. They're also nice in the winter for the extra heat and that lovely faint hot varnish aroma you get from the transformers.

I know it goes against what most two-channel guys are into but have you ever used a sub with it connected to the center channel output? Let me tell you...it is slick.

The Scott integrateds have great bass but this just enhances the foundation that much better IMO. Not sure what it is but compared to the other gear I have, the Scott sends a much "smoother" signal to the sub than the others. Must be the tubes.I love it.

My Scott LK48 reintroduced me to low level listening. It was about the subtle detail again instead of the volume based impact. :music:
 
Scott, I bet that Scott sounds fantastic. Wish I had something better than my old McIntosh MA230 integrated (SS pre/tube power) but I do enjoy it running some old KLH 17s.

Good to hear from you Bob....yes, it floats my boat.:yes:

I don't recall hearing/seeing the MA230 at your party. Maybe at the next one, I'm sure it sounds good with the KLH's.:thmbsp:
