I've heard them they sound very nice. As for things in the kitchen that don't belong there you should have heard my cousin when she came home from the grocery store to find her husband and her brother disassembling a 396 big block chevy motor and stacking the pieces on the kitchen table.

Heck it was the Missus that shot it anyhow. Matter of fact, she's killed the last three deer we've had. She has an ultra light stevens in 270 Winn, and routinely tears one hole with three shots at 150 yards.:sigh:
 
Well, I'm 4 coats into now, and just barely starting to get some depth. I've got at least 4 more to go, and possibly many more. I got a little "glare" this morning when the Missus tripped on the plastic sheeting under them and spilled her coffee. Thank goodness it was her "second" cup.:D
 
Mr. Paul C., I tried the capacitor on the 511s and they still didn't seem to want to go high enough.:scratch2: I'm thinking about adding these to the top of the 511s. I would build another birch veneered cabinet that would enclose both the HF horns, and sit atop the bass horn. I could then add whatever crossover components I would need inside that cabinet, with perhaps an L-Pad sticking out the back. These horns are supposed to start at 800Hz, but I don't think I would need to go anywhere near that low. If you think this might work, what high frequency drivers would you suggest for the Emilar horns. It's a standard 1 inch, two bolt deal. Thanks for any and all advice, Jay


Edit, my other option is to go with a pair of Heil ribbon tweeters that Urizen has so graciously donated to the cause (complete with rebuild kits). So, whatcha think?
 
Driver, hmmm, dunno. There was a thread in the speaker section, drivers for Altecs. I think someone mentioned some good drivers with top end extension.

Crossover about 3500 to the smaller horn?

No stripping (thank goodness), I built these from scratch quite awhile back, using birch plywood. I wanted to leave all the screws in them, so after they were built, I venered the whole cabinets in birch, thus covering up the screws. I've got 7 coats on now and it looks like I might need two more (of course I said that 5 coats ago):D

After 9 coats I'm calling these good for now.:yes: The system and room are sort of a work in progress, but I have to get at least the system going by March 15th for my AK get-together.:thmbsp: You can see in the pics where the front door used to be (a window now with my wifes truck peering in).:D I'm really hoping I have finally got them far enough apart to get a soundstage and some imaging. I'll most likely run them with either 2A3s, 300Bs, or triode strapped 6CA7s. RexEverything is coming a day early to the bash, so I may make him decide on the amplification. My pre won't be done in time:thumbsdn: but I have a bottlehead one that will do for awhile. I can't wait till the shin-dig.:music: I don't have the right drivers for the Emilars yet, but Urizen is sending me a big ol' pair of Heil ribbons to try out. The 511s do pretty good up high, but they just seem to leave a little on the disc. We'll see. I also added a poplar shelf along the wall just behind the speakers. It should be able to hold a table, pre, cdp, crossover, and a couple different amps. (The doggie beds will have to go)
 
Beautiful work as usual Jay. Hope you can get the wife to let you use the Jimmy to bring them to Hotlanta. Probably could get her, Urizen, speakers and all in it. By the way, how much venison would it take to get the Cornwalls you had there last year now that you dont need them?????

That's a hell of transformation, Jay. It doesn't look like the same room.

The cabs are stunning. Nice work.
