Tuning meter dead?

I picked up a Pioneer TX-7100 this week and all seems to be well besides needing some new bulbs and the signal meter was dead.

I tried connecting and aerial, nothing. Tried checking for a voltage, and there is voltage up to the signal meter (1.5-2.5V with a good signal).

I then tried to measure the resistance with my DM between the terminals of the meter.... OL.

So I took it apart to look for a break. I don't think I can see one, and I've worked on VU meters in the past....

I'm struggling to see where the copper spring wires attach and there looks to be a blob of solder attached to nothing... but I'm not sure.

Also, part of the assembly looks to be quite corroded... would that affect it?

Any ideas?

I would think only if the corrosion affects the movement as in it binds. if the movement winding is open, then that is another matter. I can only assume that shock breaks these delicate wires.

Wasn't sure but good to know.

I think it might have been a shock that has disturbed a wire.... if only I can see where the wire is disconnected.. I have a feeling a wire might be off but I'm not sure how these small copper hair wires wire to... Each side of the coil?
