My concerns are that I understand that the 2270 isnt the end all be all top end system.. however I love it and I don't see myself in the near future moving away from it. I also love my altec 14s.

The answer to your question, now I come to check, is on various dealer's websites and turntable forums, which doesn't fill me with confidence. However, I found some lab tests in HiFi Choice that measure the wow and flutter of the closely-related Clearaudio Emotion as 0.04%.
If it's in your budget a TD 124 with a modern arm and a moderately priced LOMC is very nice and would match up great with your vintage gear. I do think the new Marantz turntable also is very nice. I believe it's made by Clear Audio. Just noticed your budget, probably not going to be a 124, but another vintage Thorens should work.
I appreciate your thoughts on the 6100 I have heard that this TT isn't desireable..yet I really like it a lot.
