Turntable problem with PIONEER LX 424

I have bought Pioneer reciver LX 424 ( I think it is the european version of SX 424 ). It is near mint condition, and it sounds perfectly on radio broadcast The "problem" shows when I start the gramophone.

It sounds blury and vocal is kind of distant ( like you are hearing it from some hall ).
I have noticed that connectors to reciver are a little loose, could it be from that? Or something else?

The LX-424 is the European/Asian version of the SX-424. The main difference is the addition of a Medium wave band (shortwave). LW is Longwave or AM (in the US). FM is FM.

What cartridge are you using and do you have the connectors in the PHONO Input's or AUX. PHONO is Equalized for LP's, and 45's. It is specifically for Magnetic phono carts and some high end Moving coil (with or without a booster depending on output). Not for ceramics which get plugged in to AUX. Aux is Not EQ'ed and is line level, giving a thin, tinny sound except for ceramic carts.

You can squeeze the outer connections of the RCA cables a little to tighten them up. It may or may not correct the problem. Please post what cartridge, and exactly which terminals you have the phono jacks plugged in to.
 
Actually, the Medium wave band is equivalent to the AM band in the U.S. covering frequencies of 540-1600 khz. The Long Wave band are the frequencies below the U.S. AM band running from 150-400khz. The wave lengths are longer for lower frequencies hence the name Long Wave for 150-400khz and Medium wave for 540-1600khz. Now days the AM band runs 540-1700khz but the AM band expansion happened long after these receivers were made.
 
As far as the sound quality on the phono section, try cleaning the switch contacts to see if that solves the problem. Long for a thread about using Deoxit to clean contacts.
