Turntable setup w/ SONY TA-1120A! HELP.

Hey everyone, first post here. I'll make it short.

First and foremost, I am a Hi-Fi noob. 5 years ago I got into vinyl and I'm trying to make the push for a better setup.

I acquired a good condition Sony TA-1120A at a content sale for what I thought was a steal ($120 CAD)

Now I want to incorporate it into my setup. I am using a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, Phono Solutions PS1 and an Onkyo HT-R592 AV receiver with its corresponding home speakers (wasn't my choice, just what my family has).

Where exactly do I fit the Sony TA-1120A in my setup to get an optimal sound? I realize it's kind of mindless to buy an integrated amplifier without knowing how to use it, but I jumped at the opportunity when I did some research. I also realize that my speakers will have an enormous influence on the sound, but I don't have the money to invest in speakers right now, so I'm using what we got in the basement.

Does it make sense to use the Sony?

Anything helps guys; tell me if I should look into another component or omit one I already have. Like I said I'm just barely touching base with this stuff.

Also, if it happens I should use the Sony TA-1120A in my setup, please be very specific as to how I should do it (ex. what order to connect things in, what cables go where, etc.)

Well from a functional point of view I believe that the Sony Integrated Amp could replace the Phono Solutions and the Onkyo receiver. A lot is contingent on the condition of the Sony. Is the "good condition" refer only to the exterior or has this unit been "restored"? Sounds like its worth a try. Just connect the TT to the Phono jacks and move the speaker cables from the Onkyo to the Sony.

I use a TA-1120A in my main system. It has two phono inputs. If you use one of the phono inputs, you can plug the turntable directly into one of them, and as was previously stated, you will not need your external preamp anymore. This amp only has connections for one pair of speakers, so not much to get wrong there. The amp is rated at 50wpc into 8ohm speakers, so it has a good amount of power. But unless your speakers are decently efficient, I wouldn't try to crank it too hard.

I love my TA-1120A, but if it has not been restored, you run the risk of damaging it by running it in unrestored state. Mine was fully "functional" when I got it, and sounded fine although it ran a little hot before restoring it. Upon restoration, I discovered a failing transistor that was throwing my output transistor voltages all out of whack and could have eventually caused major faults in the amp. I'm not saying that will definitely be the case with yours, but until it's been checked out, I wouldn't run it as a daily driver.
