Unique & Distinctive Speakers

I am amazed by the myriad of speakers that have been conceived, and I am thoroughly intrigued by unique and visually distinctive designs (i.e., speaker art). To this end, I have begun to compile a list of those unique and distinctive rarities out there that do NOT blend in with the scenery (they make you say WOW!!!). Here is my list thus far, in no particular order (check them out on the net)...

Technics SST line

Yeah, I wonder about the Technics SSTs myself. I saw the SST-1's once at a restaurant, and could not take my eyes off of them. I inquired if they would sell them to me, but never got an answer. I think these are old enough to be considered "vintage", but I am not sure (it is hard to find info on these).

Here are the SST models (in red) along with some power amps that I think were designed for these speakers:

I've always been intrigued by the Manger transducer.

I'd like to put my mother-in-law in that Matterhorn sub. Right where the guy is standing. "Ok Iris, we're just going to do a 30hz test tone."
 
Technics SST line & Eminent Technology TRW-17 sub

I can see this thread is going to be very interesting, and humourous too. I am glad some of you find the Technics SST line interesting. I hope to find some more info on these at some point, perhaps from someone who owns them, or at least has heard them. :D

When you all get a chance, you must check out the Eminent Technology TRW-17 sub. This is more of a technological wonder than an artistic one, but interesting for what it claims it can do, and how it looks (think plane propeller). They say it "...requires no equalization to achieve flat response to below 1Hz." Here is the link: http://www.eminent-tech.com/main.html

Vivid G1 Giya

Hmmm, a little wider version and it could be called the Hershey's Kiss Special Edition :D It is certainly unique and distinctive, and I am sure some out there will really like the, shall we say "organic" shape. I never heard of Vivid, so I visited their website...very interesting, especially their more simple but still distinctive K1 mains and C125 mid-woofer (links below)...

At first glance , I thought the first pic of the SST-1 posted by Yamahalic was a pic of an outboard boat motor .:lmao:

Very cool looking speakers . This will be an interesting thread for sure ! :thmbsp:

Those units are sleek, any idea what make and model they are? I am guessing they are Scandanvian (I can almost picture them in one of the Ikea displays).

Those barrel speakers are very cool, I wonder if they should be refrigerated (sorry, couldn't resist). Would you say those speakers are "home brewed" :D
 
Speaker Art... Ever Heard of Jacob Mathew???

I can see there are at least two forms of unique and distinctive speaker types out there...production items and customs. I came across Jacob Mathew's site (Mathew Audio) recently, although not sure if these are one-offs. In any case, very unique. Link at:
