Just seeing if anyone can help ID this speaker I've run across? Maybe it's a homebuilt or is it branded but someone removed the badges? Thoughts on sound quality based on driver and cab construction? Thanks!!! 20171129_130519.jpg 20171129_130507.jpg 20171129_130315.jpg

That Jensen driver is not a bad sounding unit. Likely a local brand cabinet maker with a Jensen load. Nice find IMO

bakes, thanks for your thoughts on this thing! I was really impressed with how pristine it seems to be....about to bite on it if I can get them to lower the price a bit.

Back in the day speaker drivers, motor board and cross-over were sold to be integrated into a cabinet local to the customer. I have such a pair of cabinets from that era. My guess is that is what you have, as well.

rmeade, I'm pretty sure you're right about this thing, it shows all the indications of being built (assembled) Ended up getting it for 15 bucks, so I think I did alright. If anything, I'll sell that Jensen driver and buy something with the proceeds

That's a Jensen CX120.
"CX" Series speakers are a combination of compression driver supertweeter and a 2-element direct radiator woofer-mid-channel. Electrical crossover is at 4000 cycles. Small diffusion radiator disperses and balances radiation from 2000 to 4000 cycles. Three terminals for easy wiring of KTX-3 Step Up Kit for later conversion to full 3-way system with compression driver mid-channel. A "best buy" for performance intermediate between D AS and "H" series coaxial.
Put some low wattage mono tube unit on that and you'll be very pleased.

Thanks for that very detailed summary on my speaker, CopperWizard! I was wondering about the three terminals on it...I've hooked my Luxman 1050 ss to listen to it and sounds pretty decent, but my purpose for buying it was for a mono tube system, so I'm on the hunt for one and have several candidates in mind, the best being a Pilot Ensemble console amp. Only problem is the cabinet and turntable are in great shape and I haven't decided whether to gut or not. Tough decision, so I'll probably wait for something else to turn up. :dunno:
