upgrade help

Is it worth upgrading my Music Hall mmf5 turntable to maybe a VPI Classic when I using Cambridge Soundworks T500 speakers, or Marantz 7500 receiver? I have the Cambridge audio pre amp. Should I upgrade speakers or the receiver before tt?

My gut feeling is that changing the TT will not make a major difference in sound. I looked up the CSW T500 Newton speakers on the web and read a negative review about them, perhaps their sound isn't up to what you expected. They sure are expensive!

At that level in price, your choices in gear "are above my pay grade" so I really don't have any suggestions for you. Here's a link to the review, perhaps it can be of use to you.

Good luck!

I have had them for awhile and when I got
them I watched more movies than listened to
music, and I think they are great for movies
but now I listen to more music and I never
really thought they were great for music.

I have no firsthand experience with the receiver or the speakers. But, the turntable, phonostage and assuming a $100+ cartridge is a solid place to be for vinyl playback.
Myself, not a big fan of mixing media, but it can serve a greater purpose when a person wants to enjoy movies and music. Adding a better turntable to what you have will create more issues with your current set-up. A different cartridge and phonostage would also have to be considered if your going to spring for a Classic or similar.
That said, I could have bought a large plasma TV for the price I paid for a turntable last month and I saw my current TV at a garage sale this weekend for sale, $10. Everybody does it different.
