Using Only stereo speakers on a Home theater reciever

Hi, I love my realistic nova 15s but hate the stereo receiver i've been using (Because of being too old for a remote). Its not a big deal to turn it on or off, but gets annoying when im going to sleep. I have a spare sony receiver but its for home theater multi speaker set ups, Would i be able to just plug in the left and right speakers of the nova 15s and have it still work with all the sound coming out from the front two?

You can use an AV receiver as a 2-channel stereo receiver. You use the fronts only Left and Right and shut off your surround sound, there should be an off button for the surround sound function.

Yes. I would go into the HT receiver's setup menu and be sure the configuration is set up for full range, 2-speaker operation. Typ. only front speakers set to "on" and "large". Set subwoofer to "off". All other speakers (center, surround, back, etc.) should be configured to "off" as well.

Easy, and it works great

Go into setup and deelect any speakers other than the front right/left and set the speakers to "Large". Dunno if the sub will work or even if you want it. If you don't, then set the subwoofer to "none" or "off" . Check your manual for that.
 
Thanks everyone, I just plugged it all up... Seems like there is a 2 channel mode, but still no way to disable the subwoofer so i just a used a spare subwoofer and set it to 0 (Which doesnt disable it since you can go into the negative) just to catch any lower frequencys i might of been missing...
 
Ok...looks like selecting 2-ch mode is about all you can do.

Appears there are no provisions for configuring number of speakers, large/small, sub on/off, etc.
 
Seeing as you have a Sony like mine, it's easy to put it into 2-ch mode, so all you have to do is press the button and it'll be set.

Yeah, that's what I ended up doing... Not perfect since it forces me to use the subwoofer or else my lows get lost... But better then getting up at 2:30am to turn it off.
 
My Sony allows setting the subwoofer to off, which also sets the front speakers to large. It also has a two channel mode that eliminates the ssubwoofe, basically a bypass setting for all the processing features. Perhaps your speakers are lacking in the bass department?

Possibly, their nova 15s so they don't have the largest woofer in them... Might be the receiver too, kinda feels like a black Friday unit with lacking features for half the price.

The receiver appears to be part of a package that included small speakers and a sub.

There is not enough info in the operating guide/specification to say for sure, but I suspect the unit may have permanent, fixed high pass filter on the speaker outputs.
