Better than 50 years old, so it's bound to start showing it's age ...

I was stationed at Pearl Harbor. All vessels passing had to render a salute. This needs to be fixed ASAP. Many souls still aboard

It's still there, so the tributes will continue unabated ... all monuments go through maintenance and repairs, right?

dam :( sadly i've never been there. i did fly over it 2x's though. and my heart cried for our lost brothers and sisters who perished on that sad day.

There's still lot of oil in the Arizona. Wonder if ecological concerns causing Nat. Park Service to act. I visited in Nov. 01. Lot of miltary security at Pearl.

Yup ... something like half a million gallons? Latest studies show the wreck to be surprisingly stable, and should be structurally sound for a good 150-200 years yet ...

And yes, I know the rule is "hands off", but if there were any leakage, I'm sure we could come up with a way to remove most of the oil without desecrating the site. A slow pump off would certainly be less disruptive than a catastrophic blowout.

Timely thread, triggering memories of what Memorial Day really means ...
